The killers - Somebody told me

Post by toniolito »

Hi,

I will start to find a way to play this song with the NS3.

IMO, the most difficult part to mimic seems to be the "bend" part at the end of intro (analog delay? Pitch bend? Pitch+OSC ctrl? Res+LP?).
If somebody can give me ideas, samples or NS3 patches, it would simplify the task.
I already saw patches for NS2 (a related description would have been great) and some ideas for a specific sound, but not for all.

Thank you

Hi there, sorry for the delay. I got the flu and have been laying in bed sick for a week.

I've attached the Program I made and here's a quick video to demonstrate it. I spent more time making a few sounds like this on my NS2 that are actually better. My band only plays this song occasionally and I've not invested as much time on the NS3. Hope this is a good start for you at least.

Please pardon my rough voice in the video. Still getting over sickness.

Thank you very much for the time you spent.
Sorry to have been so impatient, keeping care of your health is far more important.
I think I will start from your patch to try to make mine.
I will try your "crazy effect" and see if I can improve it (IMO it will be difficult since the original sound come from another synth).
When (and if) I find it, I would share it.

As I will play this song with guitar, bass players, drummer and singer, I will try to mimic the synth track in this video:
The crazy effect sounds like an LP filter modulation with resonance , but not completly sure. This strange sound seems bounded in [0;+24] range.
As I am not currently with my NS3, I cannot try.

First try for this song. Not fully satisfied of the sound but it can be a good start.

First sound for intro:
- play Bb on lower part. KB HOLD is used to free the left hand for modulation wheel (SYNC OSC CTRL) while playing octave with right hand.
- Play Eb, then Gb and Bb + move mod wheel a lot for crazy effect.

Second sound:
- strings on upper part (pitch bend down for the end of strings part)
- first patch upper part has been copied to lower part (to add an electro style along the song)

I haven't yet used these patches with my band (I stay at home during coronavirus period).
The difficulty is to correctly use the MOD WHEEL (No very good in my record).
The two parts of first patch sound sometimes weird together when moving mod wheel.

There are rooms for improvements (in the sound and my playing).
Any suggestions are welcome...

+1
I just uploaded the presets in my previous post (thanks Doug to remind me to do it).

For strings, I use the 'Soft Strings Lef LoVib" sample. I don't remember if this sample is included NS3 factory sounds. If not, this sample can be found on on Nord official website.
We tried to play this song with my band, but we stopped because our singer was also the guitarist and it's difficult to play and sing at the same time.
A new singer has been hired recently, so I think we will try again to play this song.

Let me know if these presets work for you and/or if you find ways to improve them.
