Yamaha CS-80 sounds / Bruce Springsteen
Hello!
This is my first post on this forum so please excuse any newbie mistakes : )
I am the recent owner of the NS2 and couldn't be happier with it. I have a healthy amount of synth background from owning and using the Korg MS-20 for years / being a bit of a nerd.
My current obsession is the keyboard sound on Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire" and "Tougher Than The Rest". After doing some research I believe it is the Yamaha CS-80. Which leads me to my question.....
Does anyone out there know much about the Yamaha CS-80 and/or the synth sounds on those Bruce Springsteen songs? Is there a way to get that keyboard sound on the NS2? Either through dialing in the sound or through importing a sample?
Any assistance would be super helpful. I am going to keep looking and if I find the sound I will surly post it on the forum.
Thank you!
Eric

Re: Yamaha CS-80 sounds / Bruce Springsteen
Hello Heiseric and welcome to the forum
Congrats on your new NS2 it really is an amazing instrument.
I don't really know anything about the Yamaha CS-80, but I listened to the songs and I made a synth sound for I'm on fire. Hope it's okay for you.
When I listened to the song the synth seemed to go a bit off pitch back and forth. I would personally do that with gently rocking the pitchbender back and forth, just very slightly. That seemed to get the best effect for me. I also put vibrato on the wheel, so you can use that instead if you want, but it didn't seem to be as good IMO.
If you are curious how I made it. I just chose the FM synthsection. The first one gives you a sinus wave which makes that kind of sound. I then turned the shape knob on 50% and just added some attack and release. Lastly I added some chorus from the effect section and some reverb.
But remember to use the pitbend (or vibrato from the wheel) to get that off pitch sound.
I might try and make the sound for the other song for you later, but that is really hidden by all the other instruments playing, so it is a little harder to hear how it sounds exactly.
I might also upload an mp3 later so people can hear how the patches sound.
Hope this helps.
Best regards
Cbas

Wow. This is incredible! Thank you so much. I can't wait to try this out. This is officially the nicest forum reply I have ever received. This forum is amazing. I will definitely post some sounds as I develop them. Every time I play the NS2 I am filled with joy and appreciation for how wonderful an instrument it is. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out on this quest. I will most certainly let you know how it goes : )

Hi again
No need to thank me yet. You might not like the patch I made, although I think it comes pretty close myself.
You're right about this forum. This is a great place where we all help each other out and contribute. So many nice and talentet people here. Thanks again to Johannes for making the forum.
I definitly agree that the NS2 is an amazing instrument. It is a joy to play every time.
I'm glad I could be of help. And I look forward to checking out any sounds you may make in the future
Have fun.

Hallo everybody!
I am so happy with my new Nord Stage 2! Starting to upload a lot of great sounds...
- The "I'm on fire" by Bruce Springsteen sound is exactly a sound I was looking for too... Could somebody help me out there?
- I am also looking for the synth sound of "Speedway to Nazareth" by Mark Knopfler...
