Where to get Replacement Knobs for Nord Stage 2 EX

Post by markyac »

Anyone know where I can get a replacement knob for the Master Level control on a Nord Stage 2 EX? I assume these might be fairly standard but I would no idea where to go or what to order. Incidentally somehow it came off the first time I used the board. I contacted support and 22 days later I received a replacement knob in the mail but it was the wrong size. Looking for alternatives to trying that same path again. Thanks!

Thanks! Getting closer. Found this https://syntaur.com/nord_stage.html - but since my knob is missing wondering if you could help me identify which the Master Volume knob would be! Or if someone could tell me which other knob is similar on the board... that way I don't have to pull all of them out to see what fits.

Thanks a million.

Wisely, Nord appears to use only two size knobs - one for the pots and one for the encoders, which have the LEDs around them. Assuming yours is like the Stage 2, the pot knobs should work.

OR

Take one of your knobs to Radio Shack and see if you can get a match there for less...

The pot knobs on my Stage 2 EX 88 were so loose that they would vibrate off during transport when the the Nord's ATA case was loaded on in the truck on its end. I lost two of them before I found a reasonably priced source for replacements. Also, I solved the loose knob problem. The lowest cost source I found is the parts department at Sweetwater.com. I bought three knobs for less than $12, including postage. Here is their email address: parts@sweetwater.com Also, here is how to prevent the knobs from coming off so easily. Pull the knob off the pot and, using a cotton swab with just a little acetone (or nail polish remover) to very lightly swab the inside of the knob where it contacts the pot. Immediately replace the knob on the pot. The acetone slightly softens and swells the plastic surface of the knob and causes it to slightly adhere to the pot. The knobs can still be pulled off, but they won't come off as easily. Obviously, don't use too much acetone and do this at your own risk.

Thread lock might also work to tighten up the fit. It’s used to keep nuts from loosening up.

If you decide to use a thread locker fluid on your pot knobs I strongly advise you use this one, which is more likely to be removable: http://na.henkel-adhesives.com/industri ... -13233.htm

Loctite 609 Green retaining compound is also an option. It was engineered for cylindrical fit applications like this as opposed to thread locking compounds intended for threaded mechanical assemblies.

I found that a small piece of electrical tape wrapped around the post works perfectly.

Comes off easy as well-
