Record song with NS3
I need to record a song to MP3.
In the old days I did this on a Yamaha S90XS. On the XS you can directly record audio to an USB.
A feature I really miss on the Nords. What is the best way to record a song. I dont use studio software with my NS3, so it has to be as easy as possible.

Re: Record song with NS3
Audacity is fine but you have omitted to say that, since the NS3 does not transfer audio over USB, recording it requires an audio interface connected to the PC on which Audacity is running (unless the PC already has a stereo Line Input)dhbp-nord wrote:Audacity - free and simple.

A 2xIN - 2xOUT interface (standalone or part of a USB capable mixer) is the minimum required.

Sidenote: you'll need an audio interface for some decent audio recording.dhbp-nord wrote:Audacity - free and simple.

Re: Record song with NS3
Technically you do not need a separate interface. I have a laptop that I record board mixes on, just using the mic input of the onboard card into Audacity - works well enough for review purposes. Yes of course if you want proper quality a separate audio interface is best.

Re: Record song with NS3
I think you're trying to record what you are playing on the Nord, is that correct? (The XS let you record an audio performance to a wave file, not MP3, but I'm guessing you're not so concerned with the actual format, you just want to record, right?)matje wrote:I need to record a song to MP3.

Since the Nord does not include a record function, you'll need some external device. It could be your computer using some kind of recording software as mentioned, or a smartphone/tablet, or it could be a standalone recording device like the things Zoom and Tascam make. The simplest for this purpose looks like it might be this:

True, but since the OP was comparing with direct (digital) USB recording on a S90XS I think he expects same quality.dhbp-nord wrote:Technically you do not need a separate interface. Re: Record song with NS3
I had assume the OP had *zero* expectations of quality, since they specifically said they wanted to record to mp3.maxpiano wrote:True, but since the OP was comparing with direct (digital) USB recording on a S90XS I think he expects same quality.

Re: Record song with NS3
Heck, if quality doesn't matter and you just want to capture an idea, all you have to do is turn on the video recorder on the phone you probably have. (Assuming you're playing through an amp rather than headphones.)stringtapper wrote:I had assume the OP had *zero* expectations of quality, since they specifically said they wanted to record to mp3.maxpiano wrote:True, but since the OP was comparing with direct (digital) USB recording on a S90XS I think he expects same quality.

Re: Record song with NS3
Thanks everybody for your answers.
Normally I perform with a singer. Now again she had to sing but on a day i am not available. So I thought I record the song ao she can sing with the record.
Indeed with the S90XS you can directly record to a WAV file. WAV is easy to convert to MP3.
I love my NS3 but the lack of recording directly to an audio file is something I really miss. Is a shame the USB does not transfer audio. Seems that I have to buy an interface.
