Well I found the NS3 before v1.52 to be overly bright - now it's much easier to play softer while still being able to hit highest velocity with some force = more dynamic range, at least for my style of playing (I hit the keys quite hardly...).
To get back to the brighter sound, you can still apply some EQ or KB VEL 1 or 2..
Please remind me: @analogika, you have a NS3C, right? And what about you, @AlexNagel?
I have the HA88 and like the 1.60 (and 1.5x) very much.
I have the compact, and the Stage 3 played much nicer and sounded brighter. I was so happy with it in comparison to the Stage 2, as much as aureliopenna hated it. Using keyboard touch 1 or 2 does not achieve the same result.
I prefer the 1.6 versions, plus the NS3 velocity '0' response feels very similar to the NP4 now. For that bright sound, putting the velocity on 2 or 3 with a bit of compression does the trick - for me at least.
I guess it depends entirely on your playing style, and the type of music you're playing as to which you personally prefer.
I'm glad that someone prefers 1.60 .... but on rhodes for example Nefertiti as it sounds according to you without equalization ....? Or the ep 2 or the Mark v ..... For me they are too dark and dark the sound is muffled and with EQ the results are not too satisfying ... Someone had the same feeling? .. Yesterday I went from a my friend who had the NS2 (among other things I always preferred the rhodes flat of the Classic version). I immediately found the right sound and I was in mono !!
