Electro 5 midi settings
I'm sure this has been asked but, are all midi channel settings global on the Electro 5? If so , then why have a separate global setting ? I'd like to control my electro in different configurations with out having to go in and edit everytime I want to have a patch respond in a way that's unique to that patch. For example I'd like to have some patches where the keyboard is split but, only have my master keyboard controlling the upper sound on the electro. I'd then like to have another patch where my master keyboard controls both upper AND lower. I hope I've explained this correctly, thanks.

Re: Electro 5 midi settings
I'm afraid that's not possible. As you've said, all MIDI settings on the Electro 5 are global - there's no way to store them on a per-patch basis.
Maybe your controller keyboard can be tweaked, so that it sends on the Electro's lower and/or upper channel, according to your needs.

thanks, thats what I feared. My controller is an old Yamaha P150. It is somewhat limited as a master keyboard. It may be able to do what I want but, the manual does not make it clear as to how.

There are MIDI parameters that can be stored per patchTracii wrote:Iall MIDI settings on the Electro 5 are global - there's no way to store them on a per-patch basis.
This happens to be one of the few MIDI config options that CAN be stored on a patch-by-patch basis, using a program's "KB split Point MIDI Upper rcv" option.jorr92 wrote:I'd like to have some patches where the keyboard is split but, only have my master keyboard controlling the upper sound on the electro.
The manual says you can store a MIDI Transmit channel with each saved Performance (and ou can store 24 Performances). So yes, you should be able to call up a user preset (Performance) on the Yamaha that will correspond to the Nord Global channel and trigger its Upper and Lower, and call up a different Performance that will correspond to the Nord Upper channel and then only trigger the Upper sound (leaving the Nord's own keys to only trigger the Lower sounds, as long as you've called up a Nord program that has its Keyboard Split options set appropriately).jorr92 wrote: I'd then like to have another patch where my master keyboard controls both upper AND lower./quote]Tracii wrote:Maybe your controller keyboard can be tweaked, so that it sends on the Electro's lower and/or upper channel, according to your needs.jorr92 wrote: My controller is an old Yamaha P150. Re: Electro 5 midi settings
That's correct - you can store per patch whether the upper section responds to the upper MIDI channel or the global MIDI channel. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused.anotherscott wrote:This happens to be one of the few MIDI config options that CAN be stored on a patch-by-patch basis, using a program's "KB split Point MIDI Upper rcv" option.jorr92 wrote:I'd like to have some patches where the keyboard is split but, only have my master keyboard controlling the upper sound on the electro.
However, both of these channels are global settings, so the lower section always responds to the same global channel and the upper sections always responds to either that one or the same upper channel. If you want to achieve what the OP explicitly explained - patch A where external KB controls upper section only and patch B where external KB controls upper and lower sections together - you can't do it only by selecting different patches on the Electro; the external KB has to be configured differently as well (just like anotherscott explained ).
