Buzzing from display

Post by laighthaus »

Curious: for those of you who have a Nord Grand, do you hear a low level buzzing sound that seems to come from the display? The buzz gets louder as I put my ear closer to the display.

Next time you’re playing on it, would you please put your ear near the display and let me know if you hear the buzzing? Thanks!

Same display, same phenomenon
I saw that thread too. I wasn’t sure if the display was the same so I thought I’d ask separately.

The display is the same for the grand, stage, electro and piano latest models. I have heard this buzzing on several stage 3 and previous stage 2 units. it's not actually the display itself but part of the power supply and regulator. It reminds me of the days of equipment like Roland D50's, Casio fz-1, etc where there'd be that hum. Don't worry about it, it's normal.

My new NG has a 60hz hum that comes from the right side of my board (power supply). But, it does not bother me at all, it is an electronic device. Pressing the shift key does nothing to the sound. I left mine on all night to "burn it in" for any issues that could arise. I am wearing headphones, currently.

After getting a great night sleep and allowing my ears to rest after playing it all afternoon yesterday, I think it is a keeper!

My Nord Grand just started buzzing at the site of the display. We bought it in November and there wasn't any buzzing until today. I can hear the buzz when I am sitting normally at the piano, although it does get louder when I lean into the display too. Has the buzzing sound that you noticed resolve itself? Did you have it fixed? Thanks!

The hum is the power supply apparently.

Not exactly. The buzz is from the DC to DC converter in the display board and seems to be present on all of the Nord keyboards using the OLED-displays.
