Save .nsmp patch with "SLOW AT" enabled.

Post by ibljula »

It is possible to save a patch so the "VEL DYN" is automatically selected in the NE3 when loading the sample, but what about the slow attack "SLOW AT"?
Can that be done in the Nord Sample Editor? If yes, where can I do that?

Yes,
It's on the Samp Preset tab of nord sample editor

I saved the tried to save the patch both with Attack time "Short" and "Long", still the NE3 loads it without the Slow Attack lit.

Interesting,
I'd swear that it has worked for me in the past.
I don't currently have the ability to re-test.
Have you tried saving the project first, then doing the generate and download?

Yes.
The NE3 has only SLOW AT off or on (two settings), while the editor has 3 settings (none, short and long), so that doesn't make any real sense. It could be a "only Nord Stage" setting-thingy.
It should work somehow, because some samples do change my NE3 to SLOW AT on when loading them.

Yeah, some settings apply to the wave and stage2 and others just the electro 3.
I think no matter what, the program settings override the sample preset.

I've tried everything on the Samp Preset page now, still no way of getting SLOW AT enabled.
If someone knows how to do it, please let me know.
Thanx

So what happens when you repeatedly press the Samp Env button (next to Slow AT) on the Electro 3?
It should cycle through the four options for the sample's attack and velocity settings.
See page 10 of the manual for more info.

Yes, of course, but that is not the issue here.
The point is that in a patch, I want the SLOW AT to be switched on by default. For example if I send the patch to somebody, that user wouldn't need additional instructions of how the sound should be produced. Maybe it's just not possible to set this in the editor. It works with VEL DYN, Octave shift and the different releases, but maybe not the slow attack.
If someone can just confirm this, we can drop the topic.

Hello ibljula,
I let this thread rest for a couple days to see if someone else would answer.
Since no one has.
I'll try to be a little clearer about my answer.

I was initially confused by the term patch and interpreted that as "program"
Once I became fixated on patch, things kind of went south from there.

Please allow me to try again.

a .nsmp is not a patch, it is just a sample with some additional information attached (Sample Preset Data) as to how a program will use it.
Slow AT is not part of this data. In Nord Sample Editor software (NSE), the bullet boxes by None, Short, and Long determine how velocity dynamics will control attack time.
See page 15 of the NSE manual for more detailed information.

To accomplish your goal you'll need to create a program and share that file in addition to your sample.

If any members have anything additional to add, I encourage you to share.

Cheers, Hanon
