This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards.

Well they have a pretty clear release schedule that they've followed for some time, I expected something new this year. I don't think that's too much?

Also it's not every NAMM either, it's like once every 3 years. I'd almost say that Nord is a leader in stage keyboards, that's why many brands try to copy what they do. If Nord drops a new keyboard with great features, other brands will try to copy that, meaning stage keyboards will also get cheaper and better while brands become more competitive. I'd say that the new Yamaha YC series comes pretty close to the Nord for a few hundred less.

I agree with you on that. Take a look at the new hammond sk pro. The architecture and the whole concept of this instrument resembles so much to the nord stage! ok, the organ section of the hammond is great, but in terms of versatility and customization it is still far from the stage 3 IMO.

Yes, Nord is leader in stage keyboard.
But the gap is narrowing, and they may need to pull out some more radical innovation wrt their current state of art; for exemple certain choices in term of memory architecture and technology may be less appropriate today than 10 years ago (Think to the Prophet X 150Gb sample SSD for example).

Personally the point where Nord really need to innovate is the synth side; when i bought my A1, Nord had very little competition on the knobby, reasonably priced synth;
today, they have a lot of competition (just look to the Thomann synth section).
Of course, this do not change in any way the usefulness or quality of the existing products, but i wonder what would make sense in NL5 to avoid losing users to competition.

Uhm...let me think if this year was in any way special, and anything happened that could have disrupted global markets, economies, production and distribution....

....uuuhhhmmmm, no, I can't think of anything. Definitely it's all Clavia's fault.

I believe the only Nord Stage model EVER announced at NAMM was the 76-key version the Nord Stage in 2006 (the Stage itself was announced in April 2005 at Musikmesse).

Stage releases have been mostly April, some September, none in January (except for the one mentioned above).

"Clear release schedule", indeed.

I have never seen any release schedule from Nord, it's just us who think there is one because we saw some kind of regularity for new releases in the past couple of years - no one ever said that this is a standard release schedule planned by Nord.

One other thing to consider is, especially in 2020, products were released randomly by various manufacturers. Arturia Polybrute, Sequential Prophet5 Rev4, Modal Cobalt, various other synths etc just appeared one day. So for some companies NAMM is less of an obligation than it seemingly used to be.

I think people are disappointed simply because 1, NAMM is traditionally when a lot of the new releases are, and 2, almost every other company seems to have released something on or near NAMM this year. Surely some new firmware or samples would hold people over, but there doesn't seem to even be that. It is also interesting because I keep reading that Sweden is less strict than many other countries re: lockdowns etc and so logically it would be easier for them to work on things than say France or others.

They have since reversed course.

Do you know how many people picked up an instrument during lockdown? The musical instrument industry is going as strong as ever. Why did Yamaha manage to bring multiple new boards this NAMM? What about Korg? Did they get the corona vaccine early?

Yamaha has about 300 times the personnel working on their dozens of keyboard lines, IIRC.

There’s a bit of a different dynamic there.
