Nord Lead 2X Restore Factory Presets *SOLVED*
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to restore the factory RAM presets (Banks 0, 1, 2, and 3) in my Lead 2x keyboard.
I'm not having any luck. I'm using the sysex files avail on the Nord site, and I'm transmitting them via MIDI-OX. I confirmed my MIDI cable is working both In and Out (I used the Lead 2x to play some VSTs, and another synth to trigger the 2X)
Whenever I send the bank I would like restored as a MIDI dump to the 2X, it finishes, yet nothing has changed (loaded) on my keyboard.
Are there some weird settings required for the Lead 2x? (Low output buffer settings, etc?) Wasn't sure if anyone here had some experience using MIDI-OX and an older keyboard like the 2X...

Hi, what type of MIDI interface are you using? Some cheap USB MIDI cables have problems handling sysex data flow, you can try to set speed in MidiOX (see for example here http://www.midiox.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB ... 1575167363) if that's the case or use a different MIDI interface.

Thank you, that is helpful for sure.
I have looked at all the settings in Midi-ox, but was unsure which ones to adjust. I am using a M-Audio UNO USB midi adapter

Re: Nord Lead 2X Restore Factory Presets
(Well, I slowed everything down in midi-ox....delay between buffers to 200ms, and midi buffers at 100. Still no transfer!? Yet I can use midi in/out to control another synth and have another synth control the 2X...)

Re: Nord Lead 2X Restore Factory Presets
Then trying a different (better) MIDI USB interface would be the next step to do, if you can
PS: the NL 2X Factory bank is also available as a SMF midifle, have you tried to send that one too (from a DAW)?

Ok, thanks. I'll see what's avail at my local store.
I've never tried sending a SMF midifile, and have little experiences with DAW. Will have to look that up! Perhaps there's a simple midifile player I could download for this purpose....?

Re: Nord Lead 2X Restore Factory Presets
I see Boss offers a free SMF midifile player online, I tried that out but it still didn't change the programs on my 2X (?)
Just to confirm:
- the first 4 banks on my Lead 2X (Bank 0, 1, 2, and 3) are listed as RAM. They are the user banks?
- the following six banks (Banks 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9) are listed as ROM. They are factory banks, and cannot be changed?
I am following the guidelines in the manual - I select a program in the bank I want to change (program 1, in bank "0") and then I transmit Bank 0 either by SMF or by Sysex.

Re: Nord Lead 2X Restore Factory Presets
As a USB MIDI interface, after trying many cheap ones I found the Roland UM-One to be the best solution (I use it also to send Sysex to my Moog Little Phatty Tribute, with no issues)iluvchiclets wrote:Ok, thanks. I'll see what's avail at my local store.

PS: forgot to ask, but of course you have Memory Protect off on the NL2x, right?

Sorry, my mistake, there is no such a setting on NL 2x (I checked the manual), memory is always writeableiluvchiclets wrote:Oh gosh - I wasn't aware of that. I'll have to look that up.maxpiano wrote:
