If you A/B pianos on the NS3 vs. NP5 you'll notice a deeper, fuller and richer character to the pianos -- more body, more voice. Same samples though!
I think I have gear issues ....

Re: Stage 4 piano sounds brighter
Does the Piano 5 sound better than the NS3 in mono? It uses some new v6 samples similar to the NS4. Thanks.cphollis wrote:If you A/B pianos on the NS3 vs. NP5 you'll notice a deeper, fuller and richer character to the pianos -- more body, more voice. Same samples though!

It's the same difference in mono.WannitBBBad wrote: The Nord manual for the NS4 notes the pianos are optimized when mono bus routing is used, have you noticed a difference there (for the better) that might help explain the new character?

Maybe the NS4 is close to/the same as NP 5 in piano-character.cphollis wrote:If you A/B pianos on the NS3 vs. NP5 you'll notice a deeper, fuller and richer character to the pianos -- more body, more voice. Same samples though!
I find the piano in the NS3 more to my liking, but this will likely (have to) adjust by time.
I don't think this can be adjusted in any OS update, it's probably the character in the DAC. Don't know if the NP5 and NS4 share the sames DACs.

Re: Stage 4 piano sounds brighter
Spend a small hour with the instrument this evening, and the characters of the piano grows quickly to my liking.
It IS deeper, fuller and with a richer character. The synth-section is also massive.

Re: Stage 4 piano sounds brighter
The E-pianos in the NS4 has a bit brighter character than in the NS3.
I recreated one of my programs with the same FX- and EQ-settings on both synths, using the EP1 sample.
The sound is definitely more bright and with slightly more bell-character, and the bass and low-mid is definitely less boosted.
Often when playing with a bassist, I was asked to reduce the lowerEQ on the NS3.
It's V6.1 on the NS4 and V6.0 on the NS3. Therefore I loaded the V6.0 in my NS4 to verify if the different versions was a sonic factor.
Same result, and I like the character. It's more present in the mix.

Re: Stage 4 piano sounds brighter
I purchased a NS3 few years ago because, and the first and most important reason was how lovely the pianos sounded in comparaison to any other keyboards I played.
I recently just got my new NS4 because I wanted to get the new features and upgraded synth. Just to realize that the pianos sounds different. As if a mid-forward EQ was applied at some frequencies.
Is there a fix to this or EQ setting or any suggestion? Playing mostly through my headphones for now, I really find the sound a tiny bit harsh for some reason.
Thanks
Phil

Re: Stage 4 piano sounds brighter
The NS4 has more body in the pianosound, and I do beleive it’s to the better.
I needed a couple of days to get used to the new sonic characther, but now I prefer the NS4 more than the NS3.
Also the E-pianos are highly improved sonically on the NS4
