Using an organ swell pedal for two instruments simultaneously

Post by Schorsch »

Hey, quick question; I’m about to add an Uhl X4 to my NS3 and looking for a way to use my Yamaha FC-7 pedal as organ swell for both simultaneously if possible. Does anyone know if there is a kind of splitter on the market that would allow doing this?

Thx and have a great weekend!

If you want to connect the same pedal to 2 distinct keyboards Exp Pedal inputs without any risk you need an expression pedal which is natively Dual, such as EHX Dual Expression Pedal or Source Audio SA61 (which have 2 separate pots/jacks) , but in your case why don't you just use the NS3 External section to send the appropriate MIDI CC to the X4?

Connecting them by MIDI is what I want to avoid if possible, want to keep them totally separate and just share the swell pedal somehow. Using a dual pedal is an option if there are some that have the same pedal way like the FC-7, but all I found so far have a shorter way

I already considered adding a second pot to a FC7. There are guys who swapped the pot in an FC7 with a stereo pot in order to get a dual expression pedal. I found it interesting, but haven't checked details yet.

Have a look: https://forums.musicplayer.com/topic/17 ... econd-pot/

Hi FZiegler, great idea, haven’t thought about that but will certainly try. Thanks a lot!

The FC7 appears to use a special kind of pot (WF876300 VR ROTARY B 50.0K) which has the linear 50KOhm carbon track over a 90 degree range of the pot movement, the rest is conductive, so using a standard B 50KOhm stereo pot (which normally has a 300 degree movement is not likely to behave same as the original FC7 pot. I suspect that the expression effect would not reach the full range of expected values.
That being said, I would like to be proved wrong, so if you try it replacing the pot, please post here your results.

I know this isn’t what you asked for, but if you can find the schematics for Boss EV-30 dual expression pedal, maybe you can see how it’s done. I use the EV-30 and the Boss FS-7 dual foot switch to reduce the pedals needed to control the organ sections on my two NS3s.

Here’s a link to a post with a picture of my pedalboard with the EV-30 and FS-7 on the top section.
