Whole band suddenly stopped playing?

Post by Winds »

Hi. So I just had an interesting occurence.

We (the band) were playing a song live. Rehearsals went well. In one song towards the end there's a section where the band stops playing for a few bars before resuming play until the end of the song. We all have our written parts as well in front of us so not playing by heart.

Suddenly during live when that section came on, the whole band didn't even go back in. It's normal if one or two mess up so can still catch up. Bear in mind this was about a 12 piece band with strings, percussion, rhythm but NO ONE resumed playing. I swear to god if I recall back it feels like brain just went dead (or blank) and others felt the same way as well. Whole band is completely dumbfounded.

Anyone ever had this kind of experience before?

Well - Life offers some magic moments, nobody will ever find out, where they come from.

To compare:
Just imagine those moments, when the Guitar Player had the (subjective) feeling,
that he needs to extend his Solo, even if tha arrangement says "it enough now".

Why not facing a moment onstage,
when everybody feels that it would be cool for this day / time / moment,
to have the song ending here and now.

If everybody give this moment a chance then and waits till very the latest second to join in again, but doesn´t,
it could happen that the music (and the song) stops / ends - - and in this case with a perfect ending,
that would be a hard job to arrange in written music or re-built in the next rehearsal...

So the only thing to say here is: Sometimes you should give Life a chance, to do its thing...
... onstage since '78 and on the endless (?) hunt for the perfect stage keyboard...
