Nord Piano 5 PSU board?
The fuse is good, power cord is good but piano does not turn on. No water damage. Piano was not dropped/abused. Cant find a service guide and Nord will not provide DIY tech support. I opened the piano up and all the ribbon cables are secure. Dont see/smell any burnt components. Should I replace the power supply board (PSU). Any tests you suggest, eg probe with volt meter to narrow down the problem? I would simply replace the PSU but I suspect it's quite expensive and dont know where to buy it yet. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about the problem you have. I hope you find a solution soon.
My first advice is, the NP5 is a new board. If it is still under warranty, I strongly recommend getting it inspected and serviced under your warranty agreement. You can contact the US distributor for how to best do this.
If your NP5 is out of warranty, please post a high resolution picture of the NP5 power supply unit. I suspect it is the same PSU as was used in the Stage 3. A few years ago I wrote a document describing how to test the NS3 power supply.
Send me a private message (you need to be logged in to the forum) to discuss whether this is right for you.

Thank you pterm! I will try to private message you. But for now here are higher resolution photos of the power supply. The piano is out of Warranty.

Re: Nord Piano 5 PSU board?
I suppose two things to check first would be continuity on the power switch (power across the switch) and see if I’m getting power on the output of the power board. But I’m not certain about where to probe. I guess I’d have to dig a little deeper, where do I put my probes for these tests, what kind of voltages should I see on the PSU output (voltage level and AC or dc)?

Re: Nord Piano 5 PSU board?
A PSU like that is not such a complex circuit to diagnose and some voltage test points are also indicated on the board (e.g. the +12V at the chip on the top right corner of your first picture), if you ask this sound like you are not so expert, in that case I think you should rather take it to a professional electronics repair workshop (sorry for being frank), best if a Nord official one even if out of warranty.erubin2000 wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 02:33 I suppose two things to check first would be continuity on the power switch (power across the switch) and see if I’m getting power on the output of the power board. In any case, usually testing has to follow the electrical path, so in case of a PSU starting from the AC inlet (including power cord continuity or trying a different one), then the on/off switch, the fuse, transformer outputs and so on...

Hi, what does "the fuse is good" mean? Did you use a multimeter? Same question for the cable.

Re: Nord Piano 5 PSU board?
Hi and thanks for the suggestions. I tested the power cord with multimeter. I have line voltage. Fuse is visibly good and passes continuity test with multimeter. Did not have time to do the testing of the PSU board yet. I opened up the unit and took photos just hours before taking off on a trip. Before closing up the unit I inspected the top side of each board for any visible bad solder, burnt component, burnt smell, bulged capacitor and liquid damage. Undid all the ribbon cables and plugged them back in. The unit still did not turn on. On the plane I discovered this forum and decided to post here before doing more tests, hence the seemingly non techy questions I posed. Once home and settled back in I will open the unit again and start probing with a volt meter to find out where I dont have power.
