Nord Piano - Editing a Patch

Post by tetasao »

Hi, new nord user here.

I ma having a heck of a time editing a patch. None of the instructions are helpfui, and there are literally zero videos on the Nord Piano 5? Weird.

Anyway, I want to create a patch using the Accordion/Harmonium branch, with the Indian Harmonium as the sample.

I have created a patch, M 11 (empty) and named it Harmonium, however, it shows the sample as White Grand XL and I cannot, after an hour of trying, understand the steps to make that Harmonium. I have used the category and sample knobs to set that, but it doesn't show up or play in the patch.

I'd be extremely grateful for a step-by-step instruction on how to switch that White Grand to Harmonium in the patch view.

I've added photos of the Patch and what I see if I turn the Category Knob/Sample knob (but this disappears right after the display).

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

D.

I think you are still missing the basics, for example the difference between Piano and Synth sections of NP5 (and between piano samples like White Grand and synth samples, like the Harmonium);

Suggestion: read the NP5 manual, slowly and carefully and try testing what your read and is of interest for you, while you read it.
It is the best tutorial.

1. What you call a patch is a program in Nord speak.
2. I don't think there is a Accordeon/Harmonium branch, section or group, but who knows. In any case, you won't find accordeons or harmoniums in the piano section (I prefer 'engine' over 'section' or 'layer' but Nord changes the term for almost every model) but maybe within the 'sample synth' categories.
3. Maybe the sound you want isn't stored in your Piano 5 and needs to be downloaded from the Nord Sample Library via a computer.
4. Don't worry about any piano selected in the Piano engine - there will always be one, but it plays only when the layer is on. The same applies to your harmonium: selecting it isn't enough - you need to activate that layer and set a convenient volume.
5. Last but not least: Memory protection is off?

Still something missing?

You may also look for the Nord Stage 3 tutorials of MyKeysToMusic on Youtube, they don‘t cover the Nord Piano 5 directly but the principles of using a Nord are the same
