Nord Grand 2 Key Noise Issue

Post by MH282 »

Hey,

I got my hands on a Nord Grand 2 and I love the Instrument. But i noticed an issue with a "plastic" noise with a G key (the one below middle C). It didnt Sound as soft as the others when releasing fast.

I opened the case and saw that exactly at this Spot there is some plastic holding cables from keybed to the platine. Does anybody else have this issue? Is it a production fault and the plastic thing was mounted at a wrong spot, directly under the counter weight of the key? Each time the key is released fast it touches the plastic and makes a bad sound...Anybody has a suggestion how to Deal with that?

Best regards!

P.S. I saw the same at the Post of the dissambly Guide to the nord grand viewtopic.php?t=19178
So maybe it is an issue with all Grands? Maybe somebody with a Nord Grand or Grand 2 can confirm.

I would try to carefully remove the cable holder (it’s adhesive) and re-fix it a bit more away from the keybed?
Regards Schorsch

Check this awesome website to visualize NS2/3 programs and re-create them on the other instrument!

Sorry can't help on this. But out of curiosity, can you confirm that metal counterweights are marked W2? (Should be visible in the opposite side of your photo)

Thanks for the idea, i was thinking about it but afraid that i lose warranty if there are other issues and I've "manipulated" the product. I just dampened it with a small strip of felt for now and it's better and almost no difference to the other keys. But i think it's either not a good design from Nord if its happening on all Grands (2) or bad quality control if they didnt notice.

Sorry I already assembled the instrument again. What would it mean if they are marked with W2? Maybe i can have a look if I do decide to change the position of the cable holder.

Kawai RH3 graded action has 4 levels of weights.
W1 W2 W3 W4, being 4 the lightest.
Nord grand 1 is not graded and uses W3 all across the 88 notes.
From what I get from reviews, Nord grand 2 has a havier acrion but again not graded.
I'm curious to have a confirmation that NG2 uses W2 keys (or maybe a combination of W2 and W3?).

I got this "effect" at my workbench on a Studiologic NUMA-X-73 too, where the "cable-holder" was installed in the Hammer-Way also and causing some noise. Interesting that this happens to be the same keybed manufacturer...

In the Nord the keybed is a modified Kawai Version bjt i guess the decision for the positioning of the cable holder is from Nord. Could you fix it for your Instrument and how?

This is something I’ve noticed on my Grand 2, but at F above middle C…

Edit: this reminds me, there are two revisions. I have a Rev B. Is yours Rev A or B? I suppose it is possible there was an internal redesign resulting in a different position for these components.

Edit 2: I think I am mixing up the Rev with the Piano 5. I definitely hear this rubbing sound at F though.
