How to change Performance Sound in old Fantom X with Electro?

Post by Organlover »

Hi,
As there is still not one satisfying brass sound for me within the Nord library (or does someone know an external and good sample sound? Tips are very welcome :-)), for gigs I am still using my old Roland Fantom X6. I am using performance sounds where I put a bundle of different brass sound together.

My idea: changing (Electro 5) setlists / programme lists (Electro 6) should control and change the Performance sounds of the Fantom.
My problem: Only a "programm switch" from the Electro will send a Midi message AND I can only change the Fantom Patch sounds via Midi, not the Performance sounds.

I already set the Midi setting (Fantom) to receive Bank AND program changes, but this doesn't help.

I think, the problem is still present with the newest generation of Fantom synths, as they are having also a sort of "Patch" and Performance" sounds, am I right?

I am very thankful for every single hint or thought from you.
Thanks!
SynMike

I don't have a Fantom X6, but older Roland products allow you to select Performances on a single MIDI Channel, selectable in the Settings area. By default, the older products I have used had this set to Channel 16. So Program Change on channels 1-15 will select Programs on those channels and a Program Change on 16 will select a Performance. The Fantom X6 owner's manual might something about it. Try putting your Nord on Channel 16 and then send Program Changes.
