Sample editing with Sample editor

Post by Bernd Pfeffer »

Hi everybody.
Is it possible to edit a multisampled Programm, that I previously have created and that has already been sent to my Norstage 4 respective Nordwave 2 ?
I cannot find any function in the current Sample Editor software v4.32 (MAC) That allows downloading samples from the Nordstage 4 (Nordwave2) into the Sample editor software for further editing?

Thanks and best regards,
Bernd

Samples cannot be downloaded from any Nord keyboard. The sample editor is one direction only. From your saved sample files and sound editor project TO -> the nord keyboard. There is no way to recover those samples for further editing within the sample editor.

The only way to get samples off of ANY Nord Keyboard would literally be to capture/resample the audio generated on the audio outputs of the keyboard.

Your sample project file is what you need to overwork your sample. Should be somewhere on your computer.

Wait, what do you mean by 'multisampled program'? Programs aren't issue of the sample editor - it only creates samples which is raw material for programs. And there is no such thing als multisamples on Nord gear. Nord samples always have only one sample sound per key - or even a key range per sample sound.

A bit off-topic here but I have confirmation that the Awave Studio program is able to generate .NSMPPROJ files.
Good thing is that it also writes the looping points and the velocity (see the VELOCITY HACK thread) inside the text file.
Could be helpful for Stage 3 users, users with non WAV files, conversion of existing SF2...
Awave Studio / NSE compatibility

With the Sound Manager select the Samp Lib button, via the Sound Library. The on the instrument column select the samples you want. Right click on one of the selected, and select upload.

This will bring up a file selector that lets you save the nsmp file, which has the samples, and the mapping to your computer. It's not individual sample files, but it does let you get the multi-samples from the keyboard/synth into the computer.

With the Nord tools you are quite limited. If you still have the project file (nsmpproj), and the original samples used in that project file, then you could do edits. Once it is compressed into a multisample file (nsmp), the factory tools will not let you edit that file directly.

There have been some programs to convert nsmp files into wav files, which would let you get there, but the github page with that program is no longer up. The Awave MSOS program looks like it might be able to open the nsmpproj files, but I don't see nsmp files listed. So that wont get you there either.

You can "upload" the nsmp files from your NS4 to your computer, and then send the nsmp files to the NW2, but you wont be able to edit them with the factory tools.

If Clavia would publish the nsmp file spec then third parties could create a means to do file editing that would support the Nord keyboards/synths.

This will not happen for sure in the short term.
I'd be more than happy to have the backward compatibility between nsmp3 or nsmp4 to nsmp. Even with small loss (velocity information on nsmp3 for i.e.), instead of having to resample nsmp3/4 to generate wav to recreate nsmp.

Good thing is that almost all the "old" samples are converted to the latest version on the fly in NSM.
