NP6

Post by redder2 »

Well, it’s out. Not entirely sure if it is worth upgrading from my NP5 88, but it’s out.

Agree. Seems very incremental. More like a Piano 5 and a half!

But yay, it's all good. All moving in the right direction.

Organ 3 and Piano 6! I wonder if there's anymore to come?!

Will the NP6 have a fader pickup function ? If not, then it's not really a step forward compared to NP5.

(Also, as far as I know, Nord has not yet managed to implement this pickup function in Nord Stage 4...)

What really makes a difference compared to the NP5 is that you can now finally assign your own effects per layer. That might also be a real reason to update from NP5.

Of course, some expansion of the effects and the connection of the Triple Pedal 2 are also worth mentioning, which perhaps also opens up more possibilities.

The recommended retail price has also increased significantly, namely by almost 25% (NP 5 EUR 2,999,- NP 6 EUR 3,699,- (Source Thomann.de))

Product compare (NP5 vs. NP6):

Faders still jump on the NS4. Like the NS4, on the NP6 one can see and adjust all of the layer levels which is really nice. I prefer the rotary encoders, just there's not enough room...

at this point, I think it's safe to say that they haven't "not yet managed" — they don't WANT to.

The engineers at Clavia are obviously not idiots, and having a fader "pick up" vs. "jump to" a value is very easy to implement (it's literally about four lines of code, if my logic isn't mistaken).

"Faders still jumping", which means that when the fader is operated there is also an audio volume jump. That's really intolerable, especially on a keyboard that costs $5,700.

This means that NORD is not listening on his fan base, because this point has already been discussed or expressed as a wish in many forums on the Internet.

Nah, they’re just not listening to YOU and the fifty other people pissed off enough to endlessly fret about it on internet nerd forums.

I wish we had the option, but either behaviour is preferable in different situations: drawbars, for example, should jump. FX settings should probably jump, as well — but not reverb and delay mix settings. Volume and filter should pick up.

I’d most prefer a return to endless rotary encoders with LED rings — but then, the sliders on the Stage 4 are much more practical. They need to be motorised, but that’s unreliable for decades of stage use and prohibitively expensive.

I’m sure the engineers have agonised over this design decision for years before deciding to just leave it as it is now.
