Piano 5 Pricing (with NP6 on horizon)

Here in the US, Sweetwater is advertising the NP5 $300 lower than the NP6 (for both the 73 and 88.) This is odd. Who would be dumb enough to buy the NP5 with such close pricing? Granted, the NP6 is not light years better. But for $300 I think you'd be crazy to not have the added effects flexibility and simply the newer version, which alone probably makes up for the $300 in resale value years from now. Maybe the Sweetwater pricing will introduce a significant savings once the NP6 actually comes out? The NP5-88 is currently at $3500, and the NP6-88 is showing $3800. Maybe the NP5-88 drops to $3000 (or less?) when the NP6 is actually available?

When the Stage 3 was being closed out (which was long before they announced the Stage 4), the discounts in the US were steep. I got a Stage 3-88 for $4199 at that time. If they do something that radical for the NP5, I'm buying one! Here's to hoping...

If I was in need of a Piano, I'd maybe take the NP5 not because of $300 bargain, but because its UI matches better with my NS3: knobs for both units, handling of FX closer to each other. Why should they discount the instrument more if people like me might suffice for them to get rid of their stock.

But it might be worth asking for a special price in just a few weeks.

I believe it was more like a $500-600 difference when I bought my Piano 4 after the Piano 5 had just been announced, though I also didn't want to have to wait for the stock to come back during the pandemic.

The Piano 6 comes with the new, and in my opinion better, Nord Triple Pedal 2, which would be reason enough for me to take the Piano 6.

Just checked, here in Germany the current price difference between the NP5 and the NP6 is at least 614 Euros for the 73-key version and 844 Euros for the 88-key version. This is around $630 and $870 respectively depending on currency exchange rates, so much more significant than the $300 from Sweetwater

I think once the Nord Piano 6 is actually available, the pricing for the 5 will drop significantly. But right now, the 6 doesn’t exist. So the price difference can be much less, as the people who need it, will still buy it. “Well, at least I’m getting a discount.”

Exactly. Ship dates to the US are projected to be in April. That's three months from now - still plenty of time to sell Piano 5s at their usual cost. I would expect to see the big price cuts come this summer.

There won't be many of them - most of our distributors here don't carry a boatload of Nords in their warehouses. These don't fly off the shelves like Yamahas. I'd guess that a company like Sweetwater maybe has 5-6 of any given model at any given time. Even less for things like the Grand 2.

Sweetwater told me today they have ordered 30 of the Piano 6 for first shipment.

Here in Europe we have that famous dealer Thomann (in Germany) who advertises the NP6-88 at 3700€ with several months of delay, and the NP5-88 at 2755€ with 2 weeks of delay. For sure it's quite an interesting difference.

The NP6 is currently very close in price to the NS4 here in Europe, which is currently around EUR 4.350.-.

The price difference between the two devices is therefore only EUR 650.- !
