Assigning Sounds to individual keys "Everybody - Backstreets Back"

Post by AndyN353 »

I have just bought a NS4 and I am getting used to it. In my band I need to play Everybody (Backstreets Back) and I dont feel I am being efficient with my use of splits. The song requires the following.

1: Strings (Phased) for Verse
2. Brassy Synth for the descending semitones for the Chorus
3. Windy Swell
4. Orchestra Hit
5. Pitch Dive
6. Pitch Ascend

What I have been doing up to now is using the 3 synths (Strings, Lead Synth, Orchestra Hits) and 2 split points.
For the pitch dive and pitch ascend I am using the pitch bend and using the 2 octave version (not ideal)

I feel like it would be much more efficient if I could have the windy swell, orcehstra hit, auto pitch dive and auto pitch ascend all assigned to individual keys. So I assume this would mean I could have all these sounds within one of the splits. I also assume it is the sample editor I should be using to get this to work. But how do I get all these effects over to the sample editor? Sorry Im a noob.

As a side question: Is there an easier way to do a 2 octave pitch dive/ascend on the nord itself for example if you could assign it a length of time to do it and just hit the key?

Thanks in advance.

Do you really need all this at the same time? If not, you can use layer scene II for different splt points and sounds and e.g. use a foot switch to quickly switch between the two sceenes.

Yeah, I know I can use multiple split points/layer scene and split out the three synths (strings, orcehstra hits and synth). But then I have no synth engine left to do the pitch rise and pitch fall. As I only need to do a pitch rise and pitch fall on one note and an orchestra hit on one note also I was wondering was there a way I could have all these sound effects programmed to individual keys within one split rather than using a full split for each one. If that makes sense.

I am thinking the sample editor may be the solution but dont really know where to start with it. Seems like I would need a recording of a pitch bend and pitch dive to assign to each key. Maybe, I dunno...

Thanks
Andrew

That is exactly what you need to do.

Ok, good to know. Is there anywhere people normally go to for sound effects/samples to import into samples editor?

Thanks

Make a recording of yourself playing the pitch ascend / dive and orchestra hit and then assign them to whatever keys you want. All this can be done using the Sample Editor.

Yes. The Env To Pitch function can be used to create the pitch dive/ascend you want for single or multiple notes. Oscillators Env Amt is used to set the starting pitch and the Oscillators Envelope Decay is used for the duration of the sweep. Cheers!
