IGY Donald Fagen Synth solo

Does anyone know if the sound of the Synth solo in the song IGY of Donald Fagen is available in the sound library?

You're kidding, right? Please don't misunderstand -- I have no wish to be rude, but your request is... We're talking basic internet etiquette here. You will find that this group is one of the friendliest forums to be found on the internet, but you really should put forth some degree of effort before asking others to put forth their own. The least you could do is post an mp3 snippet of the solo you're talking about instead of asking volunteer strangers to go hunt down your song, download it, listen to it for several minutes (usually how long it takes to get to the solo), and then....

Which library are you talking about? The forum library? The Nord Sample Library? There are easily more than 2000 samples in the Nord library and more than 500 in the forum library.

Honestly, you'd be doing yourself a favor by going through them yourself. You'll be sure to find lots of fun things along the way in both libraries, and also learn much from familiarizing yourself with both the content of the libraries and the procedures involved in downloading from the internet and then uploading to the Nord.

Well, I must interject. "Inappropriate in the extreme" sounds...well inappropriate Pablo. I agree with you on the principle that people should help themselves before asking others but it sometimes happens that you are under time pressure and ask for a helping hand. Must have happened to you too sometimes, no?
I remember when I first joined the forum I was looking for a sample and my first instinct was to ask this helpful forum if the sample was available. Not only did I receive a great reply from our sorely missed moderator Hanon but he actually MADE the sound for me. So there's an example for all of us.

As for the sample I don't have to look up the song as it is probably one of the most memorable songs from the Nightfly, anybody with a minimum of musical culture can probably hum it on request. Personally I haven't found that sound in any of the libraries, but maybe a friendly soul with talent can make one and confirm the helpful friendliness of this forum I'm proud to be part of?

koenderyce, I don't know of any specific sound that matches that solo sound...and I won't comment on the organization of the Nord Sample library under fear of being flamed....but one thing I will say is that, even with a good sample, it will be hard to duplicate that solo effectively on an Electro because of the extensive use of pitch bending and mod wheels as part of it...neither of which the Electro has. Even if you have another keyboard with wheels and MIDI it to the Electro, it will not respond to bend or mod messages. Don't get me wrong...I love my Electro, but I purchased it fully understanding that these things are not among its capabilities. J2

If you're talking about the solo starting at around 3:10 then i think it's possible to do just via a sample. It won't be perfect but i don't think you'd need pitch bend or modulation.

I'll have a go at doing it.

OK -- it was late and I was tired and "in the extreme" was a bit over the top. I will confess and humbly apologize for that. Also, I have to say that last night the artist's name showed as Donald *, not Donald Fagen. I had no clue who Donald * was at that moment.

Hanon was amazing -- he handled moderator duties as though he was chef in a restaurant, taking custom orders for anything under the sun and then whipping up custom samples by the next day. THAT was over the top! His contributions to the Sample Collection in this forum are HUGE. No doubt the number of samples available in this forum would now be double what it is if he hadn't left...

When Fagan appeared in place of * this morning I figured it was something like that.

As for the "big men" comment....speaking from personal experience it can be a liability to be a big man: can't fit into Nord t-shirts! Swedish XL is roughly equivalent to American M.

Back in Hanon time (when I was new here) I used to roll my eyes in wonderment at the nerve of some people, usually someone who had joined that very day and was making a first post, asking for specific samples for specific tunes. The next day or two the requested sample would be posted like a shiny new present under the Christmas tree. Sorry that I never met him; he lives only an hour away. If Hanon has kids, I'll bet they're spoiled rotten.
