Re: New AC Piano Sound from CLAVIA - Silver GRAND
I like it too even if I can see - or rather hear - what some people are missing.
Plus: Very detailed, clear, dynamic, unusually good treble range for Nord's AP samples. I also like the bass range, there is a lot of substance in it despite the clear character of the sound. In detail it clearly beats the Bosie, and it's a little smoother than the Faz while still more substantial than the Bright Grand. Very nicely tuned, and quite dynamic in the p-ff range. I like the realism of the hammer noises; I guess it depends on amplification whether or not they come out too hard or not. The sound has long sustain which is good. It's more fun to play a low bass together with a solo in the upper range than with most other AP sounds in the library.
So-so: the middle octave and a bit up and down, there some body is missing and the character is slightly tinny indeed. In the pp-p range I think it's a bit too bright overall and I prefer the Bosie. Still, the lack of detail in the Bosie is evident compared to the new SK7 if you go back and forth between the two.
I'm sure it will work for most of pop/rock and some jazz (of the brighter kind). For classical it seems to suit Baroque and Classical in the stricter sense (i.e. Haydn, Mozart etc.), whereas Romantic music (eg. Chopin) might require a somewhat warmer piano range.
Where is that rich, full-bodied, even, well-tuned sample that is warm and mellow in the ppp-p range and that then gradually opens up as it should when you go louder (without overdoing it)?
I'd be interested to hear your experiences with stage amplification though.

Re: New AC Piano Sound from CLAVIA - Silver GRAND
I'm only home player for pleasure and I use NP2 for exercising and playing classical music and own solo piano improvisations, I'm not giging at all. Last time I started recording my songs on Zoom H4n and I think more about home recording.dynanord wrote: I was tinkling around with my MP11 until I switched to the IvoryII ACD.
I agree. I prefer romantic composers, like: Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Scriabin, that reason my fauvorite sounds are Bosendorfer and Steinway. Silver grand for me sounds too much percussion and too tiny like Fazioli.maurus wrote: For classical it seems to suit Baroque and Classical in the stricter sense (i.e. Haydn, Mozart etc.), whereas Romantic music (eg. Precisely!!! Now I'm thinking about change NP2 for MP11 for better touch and Ivory II in the future for excellent sound but still I'm not sure my decision about selling Nord.maurus wrote: Where is that rich, full-bodied, even, well-tuned sample that is warm and mellow in the ppp-p range and that then gradually opens up as it should when you go louder (without overdoing it)?

Re: New AC Piano Sound from CLAVIA - Silver GRAND
The general dynamics, clarity/punch in the bass is great but IMHO is a bit too clean…to perfect…almost synthetic?? humm this expression could be a little bit dramatic...but like someone's already said, it seems more oriented to brands like kurzweil, kawai or even roland (more mainstream). Again and in my humble opinion, It lacks a bit of the organic imperfection/personality that Nord accustomed us, such like: grand lady d, mellow, grand upright, romantic and the best of all the lovely Rain Piano (I'm with the Hoylander, even the sampler grandma's piano is a great example). But in the end It's another great addition to the arsenal.

This is a quite cost-intensive solution. Note you will need some other fine hardware (computer, SSD, audiointerface) to get the best out of it.Rychubil wrote:

I don't think so: I already have the laptop Dell Vostro i5 2.50 GHz 4GB-RAM. I'll need to buy an extra SSD 256GB for my Dell -£107, audio interface Scarlett 2i2 - £92 and Ivory II - £219, = £418 ($654). How do you think about?dynanord wrote: This is a quite cost-intensive solution. Note you will need some other fine hardware (computer, SSD, audiointerface) to get the best out of it.
Of course MP11 instead NP2 with retro legs and original case.

Re: New AC Piano Sound from CLAVIA - Silver GRAND
Yesterday I did a background music gig (jazz) at a wedding and was happy to try out the new K7. It worked very well. Very detailed sound. It seems that it was recorded pretty close mic'd, which is great in noisy background settings.
It needs a bit of eq though. Bit more bass and less treble. But then it was very nice and played wonderful.
Tonight I try it out again and then with double bass and drums.

Next week I'll be testing VPC1 with Ivory II.

Quick demo comparing the keybed noises of the NS2 and the VPC1 (with the mellow upright sample)Rychubil wrote:Next week I'll be testing VPC1 with Ivory II.
