What is everyone's general reaction for EQ on the Silver Grand? I'm enjoying the clarity of the bright hammers on the top end, but I feel like cutting some middle frequencies might clean up the sample even more. Any thoughts?

Just do a little (tiny) cut in the 200Hz-240Hz "meat region". It's similar to boosting the presence area (1.5khz to 5 kHz)

Ps: but the sub bass frequencies will be more noticed/felt…the typical smile eq syndrome

probably true that you won't seen much cash for a used SM58, might as well keep it in the bag
they are nice, but I gotta say last time around when I needed to shop for a mic trusted GC salesperson steered me into a Sennheiser
that was probably eight years ago and both sound-wise and reliability-wise it has been stellar in every aspect
not sure what model, but it was the same approx price (~$100 i think)

awesome mic and has taken a serious licking for years and keeps on keepin' on

(A little bit out of the context but) that is only a scratch on the surface because there is a curious and outstanding market for mod mics. I could post a sample of a piano recorded with a beringher pro 2 mod VS neumann u87…the result is quite surprising.

Very nice piano. Worth making room for. This will be the one I use with my noisy band. I needed something that could both do a tasteful ballad intro and then a bangin' chorus without having to futz with the volume.

At first I found the mids a little thin but after working with it I'm loving this piano. The highs sparkle. The lows are rich with great sustain. It speaks very easily with the pronounced hammer attack and even sounds good in mono. Thank you Nord!

After working the EQ for this piano for some time I now can appreciate it quite a bit more than in the first few days. Boosting presence and taking back the treble somewhat helps a lot indeed. And I like the dynamics and detail in that thing. (But no, you still can't turn the Silver Grand into a dark and woody grand akin to the Mellow Upright... )

I had a gig today and the sound engineer wanted to say how amazing the sounds were of the Nord (stage 2/electro 4).

I might be just imagining it, but when my Nord electro 4 is plugged in stereo to my mixer and use headphones, i can hear that the low notes are slightly panned to the left, and the high notes panned to the right. I'd imagine this is used to give the illusion of the strings being behind the keys, but it would give the unfortunate side affect of making the high notes much quieter if you plugged into only the left channel and still had your Nord set to stereo. I think this is the reason they provide the mono switch.

I'm using the bosendorfer XL by the way, but i've also noticed it is much more pronounced on the mellow upright sample.
