DAVID BOWIE
Am I wrong to be saddened that the only two mentions in this music-related forum of his passing relate to people seeking open access to others' programming to play DB music? Almost sounds like profiteering -- now that he's gone, his music will have a momentary gain in popularity, so let's cash in on it... At least MEL included a (parenthetical and in lower case) RIP and was following up on a long-existing thread for a song/program request...but something here just feels wrong to me.
David Bowie was in many respects an artistic genius and changed the face and direction of pop music not only as a performer, but also as a writer, producer, etc. I've never been a rabid David Bowie fan and never bothered to see him live when I might have had the chance. My musical tastes have generally leaned in different directions, but nevertheless "to whom respect is due, respect it must go through" to borrow an obscure song lyric.
Nuff respek to David Bowie's career and life, and sincere condolences to his long-time wife Iman and their teenage daughter.
He was a class act and there are few who will ever approach his legacy. Iman wrote several posts in recent days, from his birthday on Friday and through the weekend. One which struck me:
"Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory."
Bless,
Pablo

Re: DAVID BOWIE
Glass Spider tour ... Bowie with Peter Frampton on lead guitar ... Amazing. Then, of course, there was my patient, Angie Bowie .. yes, Mick Jagger's "Angie". Even loved his acting roles. I for one will miss him. You are absolutely correct ... total class act.

Re: DAVID BOWIE
I've seen this "unfortunate" phenomenon in quite a few places, and I find it every bit as distasteful as you do.
The first album I ever bought was Ziggy Stardust, and he was one of my main music heroes. I've actually been quite shocked by his death. I think there will be now quite a lot said about his accomplishments, and people will once again realise the enormous amount he contributed to music, both in his music itself, his influence on so many others, and by the trail of constant invention he blazed.
One of the all-time greats. A great pity, and a sad time for all, none more so than his family.
