K&M 18950 or 18953 for Nord Electro 5D 61

Post by cassette »

Hello,
We recently got a Nord Electro 5D 61 and now need a keyboard stand. We're looking at table-style stands with adjustable feet so ended up looking at the K&M 18950 and 18953. Of these two which one would fit best? Any advantages or disadvantages of either model for this specific keyboard? This would be for home use only. I have no experience with keyboard stands so any advice would be most welcome.

The 18950 is 40cm deep. The 18953 is only 30 cm deep and better suited to the Electro IMO.

I use an 18953 for my KX88 and am very happy with it. The laptop stand attachment really sucks, though. (It's fine for home use, I suppose, but our backliners aren't friendly with the gear and the laptop stand didn't hold up even three months before breaking clean apart.)

K&M user here as well.

I use an extended 18950 at home for my NE4-61 and a Moog Little Phatty: great, steady, room for pedals etc, has unused room on the main board surface.

When playing live, I use an extended 18953 which size is a perfect match to the 61 key Electros'. If you don't use extension, this one is the best. I must say that the +/-10kg of the Moog make the whole set less steady. I mean this is totally usable but I put the top keyboard a little more close to me and pay attention not to push it to violently :)

Though if you don't mind the 10 cm more and prefer extra safety, get the 18950.

Ah, it might be worth mentioning that the KX88 that I use the 18953 weighs somewhere around 30 kg. That makes the stand *exxtremely* stable.

Thanks everyone. How exactly does the keyboard rest on the stand? Do the feet of the Electro fit in between the bars of the 18953?

I own a 18950 for several years now with the extensions and used it in a lot of different setups. Very stable stand. I need to buy an extra stand so it saves me a lot of time. I will buy the 18953 because it looks like a better fit for my NE5.

The NE's feet just fit in-between the 18953's frame IIRC. The 18950's width can be adjusted so that you choose.

I think that is wrong. I own both and I would say each weighs somewhere between 7 and 9 kg.
EDIT: Sorry Analogika, I got it wrong :) The Kronos must make the whole stuff steady indeed. I leave my comment in case it's useful to anyone though...

That's a YAMAHA KX88, not a Kronos X. The venerable and legendary controller keyboard. Built like a f**** tank and still ticking fine after thirty years.

For one keyboard only I would agree on going with the K&M 18953 because of its lesser depth. And if you only use it at home which means no set ups and no transports you won't even realize its weight.

Maybe interesting for other players who pop in this subject: I use the 18950 with the extensions for a second keyboard. The main thing is that I had drilled two extra holes which I marked in the photo. With these - and the stand opened to a width of 71,5 cm - my electro 3 fits perfectly in here with its rubber feet. The lower keyboard closes up with the stand's front whereas the upper keyboard is as far back as possible to give maximum room to see all buttons, knobs and displays of the lower.

I love this stand. It's very stable and gives lots of space for pedals and feet.

And to answer upcoming questions: the brown fittings are balcony-flowercase-holders from the Do-it-Yourself-Market to carry my 2-channel-mixer.

Keep rocking, girls and guys
