The NE3 has the C1 Engine. The NS2 had the C2 engine, which is supposed to be even better.

thanks guys, really helpful advice. And to Hanon, your setting even works good on a Hammond XK3C ! :-)

I agree with the "I'd never own another real one" sentiment.

I had 2 hammonds. A 1963 Whitecap which was in good electronic order (sounded mellow but no crosstalk) and a very poorly redcap. Bright and probably more hum, crosstalk and all the other noises than the bashed up nord model. I've come to the conclusion the authenticity of the sound was down to the leslie. I ran both of my Hammonds straight from the preamp into studio monitors so I could hear them direct and really, you'd probably couldn't tell them apart. The leslie 145 and 147 I had made the difference, this was what made it sound like a hammond, however, you had to turn it up so loud to get overdrive it was antisocial.

I also had a load of Rhodes, my last one being a perfect as they get suitcase. The Nord Rhodes is pretty good. It's certainly more playable. Nothing sounds like a suitcase cabinet, but I bet if you plugged a Nord into a Suitcase Speaker, it would be indistinguishable.

I would never have another Minimoog. Overpriced, overhyped waste of money. It was fat and a had a mind of it's own, but as an instrument, the Nord is better, more flexible and more playable.

I do have reservations about the clavinet. I have an EX88 and although I can pretty much do anything with the Nord's action that I would on my old D6, I miss the feel of a clav. I've got to get another one.

The hammond would only get dragged out for a real special occasion but I used to drag the Rhodes/D6/Mini around on a regular basis. I will never miss carrying the top of a Rhodes 88 up a flight of steps by myself.

Nord all the way.......and a D6.
