Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
It is completely neutral when it is played by an external MIDI signal - which is exactly what I did when recording the difference.
The piano engine responds differently to external MIDI, regardless of what kind of keyboard is used to play it.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'll do next. Make totally sense.maxpiano wrote:I missed that thread, but then you should also do the opposite (play on NS2 then playback the recorded MIDI to both NS2 and 3) because your playing is influenced by the "internal velocity curve" of the instrument on which you are actually playing.analogika wrote:I’ve already done that in the other thread where I posted my recording.maxpiano wrote:I think that you should make the test in a different way, because velocity curves are potentially different when playing on the NS own keyboard or via MIDI, so by driving NS2 via MIDI while playing from NS3 you are introducing a discrepancy in the comparison
You should rather create a single MIDI file and play it to both NS3 and NS2, then compare the results.
I recorded a MIDI track (played on the NS3 compact) and played it back, recording it to audio on both the NS2 compact and the NS3 compact.
The difference in velocity sensitivity is the same.
The Stage 3 compact pianos play MUCH more nicely than the Stage 2 compact’s did, and I’m sure it’s due to the changed velocity response.
That's why I suggested the alternative to use a 3rd keyboard that should be "neutral" and make the test more reliable to determine where the difference actually lies, imho.

IMHO NS2 sound way better. Much more expressive.analogika wrote:Here is my comparison, in the original thread:

Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
I just did this recording. I guess it's revealing.
Same volume, same cable, full pressure, both with long release, no control just play at max possible dynamic I got at each keyboard, no eq.
Try to listen to the end of key off sound. Please, if you can listen it with headphones.
[CORRECTED] *First note is NS3 Second is NS2 so on and on. [CORRECTED]. This is just a rhodes, imagine all other pianos...

Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
Awesome - the Nord Stage 3 finally gets real note-release samples!? How cool is that!
This means we're finally getting Clavinets with release samples, too!
YAY!

Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
LOL Actually, the release samples are listened from NS2 not from NS3..
And was exactly the same sample played, and sounds diferent!
Speaking on Clavinets by the way, 7 eq instead of 14 on NS2, another downgrade...

The release samples are there (in some place) on NS3, but not audible as on NS2. DAC? Preamp Out? Don't know but it's sounds diferent.

Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
Not really, because that MIDI signal was produced by you playing the NS3C, while maybe having played the same "song "on the NS2C would have generated different MIDI velocities, since your "hands-ears system" would have adapted to the NS2 velocity curve and sound response (to get the result you expect while playing)analogika wrote:It is completely neutral when it is played by an external MIDI signal - which is exactly what I did when recording the difference.

Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
I am afraid it has to do with the Piano engine of NS3 not being able to "Play" them... another bug?aureliopenna wrote:The release samples are there (in some place) on NS3, but not audible as on NS2. DAC? Preamp Out? Don't know but it's sounds diferent.
