Rear Panel connections

Post by pete3 »

NORD STAGE EX (88): When I perform, I use a stereo stage rig so I connect to outputs 1 and 2. I also need to run sound to the big PA system, which is mono, so I need an output that is stereo mixed to mono (ie I need both channels of the stereo effect running out of one output jack). Can I just use out put 3 or 4? The Stage EX manual says that these do not have effects, and I'm not sure if these are stereo mix or not. I would like to have the instrument effects carried in this mono out What is the best way to set this up?

Cheers,

Pete

hi Pete.
are you running the big PA system in mono and your stage monitoring in stereo???
is there a limitation in the PA system or what else makes you want to go mono out? just curious. in my case, there's always the other way around.
anyway....

i suppose there's a mixer somewhere in between your NS and your PA system? connect your NS to a stereo channel (or 2 mono channels) in the mixer and go mono from the aux send (monitor) output to your PA. go stereo from the main outs back to your monitoring system.

if you don't have a mixer in your system, maybe you can use a stereo-->mono converter (Y-cable) from your outputs CH1 and CH2 on the NS and then use the headphone jack for your monitoring?

Thanks for the info. I was hoping that the ch3, 4 outputs on my Stage EX were mono mix. My stage rig is stereo so I use CH 1 and CH2 outs. PA's are almost always mono wherever I perform, so I need to send my EX signal to the PA as a mono mix. If I can't configure CH3, or CH4 outs to do this, I guess I can use a mixer or signal splitter with CH1, 2 to do the job. Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Pete

well, yes they could be routed as mono outputs. however they wont send the global effects. global effects are compressor and reverb. and i don't think the NS will continue to send from CH1 and CH2 once you've routed the instruments to any other outputs either, which is a far bigger problem in your case. but i'm not sure about this.

try and see! and please let us know.

routing the instrument sections to other outputs can be done in the SYSTEM MENU. se page 66 in the manual v4.x.
