MIDI Velocity messages
Hi all,
I have an issue I would like someone to please clarify. I own a Nord Electro 2 Rack I have been using with a Technics P50 keyboard. I have recently bought a Nord C2. In order to keep the playing kit simple and still get the Rhodes and Clavinet sounds from the Electro, I was thinking of connecting the Nord C2 to the Electro through MIDI to use the Rhodes sounds whenever I needed without having to use an additional external keyboard. This all works fine except the fact that the Nord C2 is not sending velocity information other than Note On/Off. In the manual it says it also sends (and receives) the speed at which the note was pressed, which as you know, is a must to play Rhodes. My too questions are:
- Is it possible that the Nord C2 cannot actually send this information?
- Could I use the Sound Manager to load Rhodes sounds into the Nord C2 and play directly on it instead of plugging it through the Nord Electro Rack?
I am investigating from my side, or course, but any external help would be very much appreciated.
Best regards!

Re: MIDI Velocity messages
Hello mongoose,
Welcome to the forums!
I would try changing the trigger mode in the SYSTEM MENU page 11 to n or normal, to determine it's affect.
The manual, and midi implementation does indicate that the C2 send and receives velocity although it's own organs don't respond to it.
You won't be able to load piano sounds directly into the C2.
If my experiment doesn't work to resolve the velocity issue, try contacting Nord technical support in the link below.
Please post back to let us know how they respond.
Cheers, Hanon

Hi Hanon_CTS,
Thanks for the advice. That did the trick! I must say, a short sentence advising this in the manual would be rather useful! Thanks again Hanon.

That was simply a guess on my partmongoose wrote:Hi Hanon_CTS,

I'll send Nord an email about it.

Re: MIDI Velocity messages
Hello mongoose,
as usual, Nord was quick to respond to inquiries.
They referenced the following information:
On page 18 of the C2 manual, it details the (E) setting of Local mode, which when active will allow the C2 keyboard to transmit velocity via MIDI.
I'm not 100% sure but I believe that this parameter defaults back to ON when the C2 is powered off then back on again.
Cheers, Hanon

Re: MIDI Velocity messages
Great!
This parameter fixed an issue I have struggled with since 2010. When I upgraded to v1.32 the C2 stopped transmitting MIDI events from the pedalboard. I was advised from the support to set MIDI Local Control to 'E', but this setting was lost with power off.
Now, after setting Trigger mode to 'L', the C2 transmits the MIDI events, and the C2 remembers this setting
Best regards, Eskild
