Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
I still prefer the way NS2 plays (maybe because I'm use to this and the NS3 are still stiffer as it is new) but as baekgaard says, NS3 offer more possibilities on velocity scaling, and I have to say that when I saw the graphic of waveform off NS2 I really could believe, but it was unequal and compressed at the end.
In terms of Velocity NS3 beats NS2 so far. I have to learn how to take advantage of this velocity amplitude.

Thanks for the kind comments I'm glad if it helped to shed a little light into the situation. I'll join y'all in the lounge shortly, making music instead of doing math

Wish I could take maths from you Baekgaard! You sound like an awesome teacher. Thanks for clarifying all of this and explaining the differences.

Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
Yes, and I wish they could add an "NS2 Velocity" option to system settings, - beacause to my feel, I have to do struggling to reach high velocity as well to hold the low ones. But of course I understand that the sounds at least through MIDI is perfectly calibrated.anotherscott wrote:So it seems that maybe the complaint that the NS3 seems to be "too forte" relative to the NS2 is explained by the fact that, yes, for most of the velocity values between say, 10 and 90, the NS3 will play louder than the NS2; but OTOH, there's a whole span on the low and (around 10 to 20) where the NS2 didn't distinguish a difference while the NS3 does, meaning the NS3 gives you a wider range of usable velocities (i.e. 10 to 127 instead of 20 to 127). So we have a greater possible range of expressivity, but for any given desired volume short of the high end, we may need to play more softly than we did before (or perhaps choose a different velocity curve to make that adjustment for us).

Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
Yes graphs and theory is one thing, to sit and play, feel and interact with the instrument is another thing. (and yes thats a personel thing)
But yes some kind of velocity option would be fine, but i don't think thats gonna happen.
But i will wait for the next Update..

Re: NS3 Velocity and General Sound vs NS2
Enjoy, Lars -- hope you'll be happier with your NS2EX then, until the NS4 will be there in some years (after the NS3EX, I guess)
In the meantime (at least) some of us will continue to enjoy our NS3 boards.
But in any case, it's really great that there are so many choices!
