I’ve just had this back from the guys at the shop where I bought it.
According to the Nord rep, the pedals are not in fact identical. The connection is slightly different. Some people have been buying them and modding them slightly so that they work with Nord instruments, but they don't work otherwise.
I smell bullshit.
Try to check again the connector of your pedal for any bent pin and ensure you connect it to the NS4 input properly (i.e. with the cable pointing up, as other users reported the connector orientation is different between Nord and Kawai versions)

My GFP3 arrived today and works perfectly. Right sustain, centre and left assigned by menu. The centre rotor toggle and the left layer II toggle. Everything as it should and without modification.

I have a friend who bought this pedal for his Stage 4 and it worked flawlessly out of the box. He is not very technologically advanced so if mods were required he'd probably have bought the Nord version.
I had something similar happen with some Kurzweil pedals; was told by the dealer that they only work with Kurzweil. These were basic sustain pedals, nothing fancy. Turns out they were definitely non-functional.

I returned my pedal for a refund and the store say they’ve checked it with a Kawai piano and it’s fully working. They’ve refunded me minus a restocking fee.
I received a new GFP-3 from a different retailer today and it works perfectly with my NS4. The original one was obviously faulty.
Seems both the Nord rep and the store in question are being economical with the truth.

I have had a Kawai MP11 piano with GFP-3 for 4/5 years. the pedal does not work with NS4 with OS 1.44. Maybe it depends on the year of construction.

I found a cable at amazon.es, the same is offered in amazon.de: HTGuoji DIN-Verlängerungskabel, 6-poliger DIN-Stecker auf Buchse, AV-Adapter, Audio-Buchse für Mikrofonaufnahmen (50 cm).
Works great!
For those that do not speak German this cable is a
6 pin male to female DIN cable. Be careful, most DIN cables are 5 pin.

I bought the Kawai : warning, There is a lot of hype about all three pedals being continuous. Well this is all well and good, BUT…The Ord Stage 4 CANNOT accept continuous control from the middle other LHS pedals! This renders the triple pedal useless for re assignment to continuous parameters for left and middle pedals

Which hype do you mean? What NTP2 can or cannot do is well documented on NS4 manual, including which parameters can be controlled by Middle and left pedals (and they are all on/off type as of today, so no mistery/hype)
