Hi, all,
Season's greetings to you all and just to get the ball rolling a bit, here's a project I have in mind for the New Year.
Briefly, my C2D is set up in our sitting room, but with limited space in there I only have a tiny practice amp hooked up at the moment. Consequently the C2D sounds pretty terrible even though I can practice on it. However, I have a small lobby off this room, where our front door is, though we don't generally use it owing to access problems on that side of the house.
So, I plan to run a cable from the organ (diagonally opposite in the sitting room from the lobby, naturally) to this lobby and as part of a tidying-up plan, and put some cupboards/shelving in there to hold some of our collection of musical instruments. The instruments will go in the cupboards, but I'll store the satellite speakers for the organ on a shelf and stand the sub on the floor of the lobby itself. So I will be able to play the organ through them and as long as I open the door from the sitting room to the lobby should get a sound as in a smallish church. The Speakers will be 'in storage', so out of the way generally, and the wiring will be concealed between organ and speakers, so it should all be tidier than the general glory-hole the lobby is right now.
Having the sub and satellites in use in the sitting room itself is a no-go with the management, but I reckon this whole thing will make everything tidier and give me a chance to play with a decent sound when I want to. Plus there'll be even less wiring at the sitting room end than there is now, and all I have to do is unplug the speakers if I want to gig with them.
I'll be running a skinny mike cable round the walls (there's a gap by the wooden flooring which I will cover up with beading - should have done that years ago) and probably running the headphone out through it to the speakers, so I can use an iPod while I'm playing, too. There'll just be a stereo jack on the wall next to the organ, so I can use an insert-type lead to connect the main outs if I decide to do that instead, or if it turns out to be too far for the headphone socket to drive a signal.
More on this when it happens - got to get some dosh together to sort the cupboards and shelves, first, but hoping to be on it before January is out.
