Nord Drum 3P with DSI TEMPEST
Nord Drum 3P with DSI TEMPEST
Hey, does anyone own both of these ? Could someone kindly explain how to connect the drum 3p with the tempest ? I would like to use the Nord drum to trigger the sounds from the tempest ? Since the tempest has a sequencer in it , so I could record and playback the tempest sounds by using the Nord drum as a glorified controller
Re: Nord Drum 3P with DSI TEMPEST
I have a Tempest and use an external Electronic Drumkit(Yamaha DTXpress)to trigger sounds on the Tempest, this is the same process as you wish to do with the ND/Tempest
You'll need to connect a Midi cable from Nord Drum-Midi Out to Tempest Midi In
Then you will need to assign the Nord Drum to the same Global Midi channel as the Tempest and then assign the Pad Midi note numbers on the Nord drum to match the Tempest pad note numbers.
I have no experience with the Nord Drum directly so not sure if you can change the Midi note number assignments of the Pads directly or if they are fixed to set note numbers,if they are fixed on the ND then you can change the Note numbers of the Pads on the Tempest in the system menus pages, change them to match the Nords Note assignments you should then be able to trigger the sounds on the tempest from the ND pads

Care to explain how you get pads to accept a certain midi channel? Do I need to use a separate brain like from an electric kit to get the Tempest linked to multiple pads?AdamStage2 wrote: ↑03 Apr 2018, 13:48 I have a Tempest and use an external Electronic Drumkit(Yamaha DTXpress)to trigger sounds on the Tempest, this is the same process as you wish to do with the ND/Tempest

I would love to just have pads to play and trigger the tempest

Re: Nord Drum 3P with DSI TEMPEST
Hi Naughty Nord,
As you can see AdamStage2 left this forum, so he probably won't answer your question, unless he re-joined under another name.
The key settings are the Global MIDI channel on the 3p (which is the MIDI channel the 3p transmits MIDI on) and the MIDI note, which is set per drum channel (/pad).
Note 60 on the 3p corresponds with 'middle' C, that's C3 or C4 depending on which standard the Tempest uses (Yamaha resp. Roland) for octave numbering.
Check the Tempest manual how to trigger drum sounds using MIDI notes on page 70 and 71..
Cheers,
Albert
