Pictures and comments shared on another post regarding the Effects section help us see the iterations of the NS4 synth with respect to the use of "Section" in v1.2 and 1.3, and "Group" in v1.4. A line between A and B was added in v1.3. The functionality will be the same for all three versions using the same OS, but not as apparent when toggling through the selection options.

The funny thing is that current version of NS4 manual has the v 1.4 Fx panel (with Group) as picture, but the text still talks about Section mode.

Maybe for the Synth the Group mode has an "A-B" variaton, indicated by that line? In any case, looks like there is still some work-in-progress on the NS4.

As we often use the word "section" when referring to the organ section, piano section, or synth section, it's possible that Nord decided to use a different word to describe the state when a group of a section is being managed. So far there isn't an indication that effects can be uniformally applied to just two of the three synths, but speculation on the Effects post indicates A-B might be applicable when C is used for Extern, however in that application all three lights are still showing. I'm hoping a future OS change will allow selection of Effects to A, B, C, AB, BC, or ABC with the lights reflecting the states.

My Stage 4 v1.2 doesn't have a Waveform button with a Keep Edits label underneath. Instead I have a button called WAVEFORM SELECT.

On page 28 of the manual it says "To load samples without their preset settings - keeping all Synth parameters unchanged - hold down the Waveform button while turning the Sample dial, as indicated by the KEEP EDITS label."

I've attached a photo.

The NS4 manual currently has a mix of v1.3 and v1.4 pictures. The Synth section shows a v1.3 picture with the KEEP EDITS label but other labeling of SECTION (top right) rather than GROUP discussed above. Though Clavia may change the labeling to cover a function, that function is available to prior models as well, so with OS 0.98 you should be able to follow the same directions to keep your synth edits when changing samples.

Is there a reason A and B are connected in the synth group in V1.4?

I believe that is to indicate you should hold down both buttons to add layers instead of just turn individual ones on/off.

So far there has been speculation about it however there isn't anything in the manual I can find covering the A-B line.
