NS4 no effect trail update?
Hi I have been using Nord Stage keyboards as part of my career for 10 years and I loved my Stage 3. However, the Nord Stage 4 loses its effect trails (Delay/Reverb) when the volume is turned down. This means morphing the volume with the expression pedal sounds really weird, which is INTEGRAL to my live performances. It seems the effect chain has changed. This wasn't a problem on the Nord Stage 1-3. I understand this is the same behaviour as the Wave 2. Is there any way we can get confirmation wether or not this will be addressed, because if not I will return and get my stage 3 back. I only have 2 weeks left of return so I would REALLY APPRECIATE a response as a longtime Nord user. Not having this feature is a detrimental to me. Many thanks!!! <3

Re: NS4 no effect trail update?
Your question should be addressed not towards the community, I think, but towards Clavia-Nord. So it might be a good idea to ask on the official support channel from nordkeyboards.com - even if you never know if you'll get an answer within time.

FZiegler is right. And I'm sorry to tell you, but I can almost promise you that they will not answer you in time. And even if they did, the answer would probably be no, the effect routing is what it is.
For a simple solution: get any decent external reverb effect. For example a TC Electronic Hall Of Fame, or anything else. Options are endless, and a lot of info is already available on website.

Re: NS4 no effect trail update?
This is simply due to the new layer design where every layer has its own effects chain, and the volume of each layer is post-effect. It's the same on the Wave 2.
I'm a little biased because I love using effects pedals, but seriously, if this is the only issue you are having I would just get an external delay and reverb. No, you shouldn't have to do that and there should be an option to determine how these effects are applied. But there isn't, and since this has not changed on the Wave 2 I see no reason to expect it to change with the Stage 4.

Re: NS4 no effect trail update?
This! EllHerrington, did you ever get any response from Nord-Clavia about this? Just had the Stage 4 delivered and literally within 5 minutes had the big “oh no!” moment when I realized the wet effects aren’t post-fader. It seems insane to me that this wouldn’t at least be an option - if not the default. Between that and no catch option for the faders, this board just isn’t going to work for me, despite all the nice new features. Just wanted to ask here before I submit the question to Nord Support. Thanks, -MattEllHerrington wrote:Hi I have been using Nord Stage keyboards as part of my career for 10 years and I loved my Stage 3. Re: NS4 no effect trail update?
I also found this problem when testing out the Stage 4. In some cases this kind of effect chain makes sense for especially when creating big pad sounds as I like to use delay and reverb as insert effects.
However as mentioned it is also a bummer that morphing between two sounds will also kill of the reverb tail.
My current workaround for this is as follows:
I try to morph the sound I want to fade out at around -30db where it might be just subtile and also morph the reverb of it to 100% wet which gets rid of the actual attack and only the reverb tail may remain very silently.
Durering the morphing this creates kind of a blend instead of a straight cut. Not the best solution but it is what it is.
However I found this limitation to be a major bummer for me which kinda suprises me for an instrument of that price range.
That is also currently my major pain point where I have to see if I could live with that and hope for a firmware update from clavia
which allows us to set the delay & reverb effect as sends for certain layers.
Otherwise I would have to look elsewhere which is sad because overall I found the stage 4 to be a great sounding instrument.

Re: NS4 no effect trail update?
Hi !!!
I did a post few days ago , with some "workaround"..... they don't solve the problem , but for some kind of use can work...
I agree is NOT right to use external pedal for a 4K , 4.5K piece of gear and I really hope there will be a firmware release.

Re: NS4 no effect trail update?
I just received an answer from the Nord support as I asked them about two issues and if they are aware of them. This is the answer I received:
"Optimally one would want to have both (effects pre and post layer level). On previous instruments Clavia had no choice but to put the levels before the reverb, since it has always been shared by multiple sound engines (this was the case up until the Wave 2). Now that there is one effects chain per layer, both variants could theoretically be implemented. Since there are so many sound sources on the Stage 4 it felt important to have full control over layer levels (including potentially big delays and reverbs), therefore the level is post fx.
...
We will share both ideas with our friends at Clavia. Your first idea might be addressed in a later OS-Update."
As I wrote about two issues, the first one being the Reverb & Delay FX part, there might be hope that reverb & delay sends will be implemented in a later update.

Re: NS4 no effect trail update?
Hi everybody,
I‘m dealing with signal processing professionally and can understand the response from Clavia.
BUT: as soon as an effect is switched to Global - like it is possible with a NS4 - the audioflow could be changed so the the FX could be switched pre or post. This kind of solution would meet the expectations of many users, as I‘m convinced that they would sacrifice the individual FX to gain the possibility of an „effect trail“.
Thanks
Eumel

Re: NS4 no effect trail update?
And being that the effects in question are linear (apart from possible delay saturation characteristics), changing their position in the signal chain by definition will not change their behaviour.Eumel wrote:BUT: as soon as an effect is switched to Global - like it is possible with a NS4 - the audioflow could be changed so the the FX could be switched pre or post.
