Filter velocity response on the Nord Stage 4

I am a happy owner of the Nord Stage 4 Compact and I find it to be a completely incredible machine with extraordinary sound quality.
Just one thing regarding the touch: I particularly liked the velocity response of the filter on the Nord Electro 6 Waterfall and I don't know how to find this response on the Nord Stage 4 compact. Do you know what adjustment to make to get closer? The possibilities are numerous and I don't know how to do it. Thank you.

Hi Nico, the Synth of the Nord Stage 4 (and Nord Stages in general) is much more complex than the basic Sample Synth of NE models and it can use velocity for multiple purposes in multiple ways.

For example Velocity can act directly on the Filter Cutoff (on NS3 in fact, not NS4), but also on the Mod Envelope applied to the Filter (but Env amount is controlled by another parameter), so bottom line you need to study the NS4 Synth in depth (from the manual) and/or start from some factory Programs where velocity is applied to the filter in the way you like it and "explore" how they are done.

Look at Filter Velocity and Mod Env + Env Amount in particular, because if no ENV is applied (Amount = 0) to the Filter, then velocity has no effect even if turned on for Mod Env.

OK thanks for your answer. I'm going to try experimenting with the elements you gave me to see what happens.

That said, your answer gives me something to think about: the interest would be to know how the filter function works on the Nord Electro 6, precisely on what characteristics it affects the sound.

Concerning the filter, this is what we find in the Nord electro 6 instructions :

FILTER
Press FILTER (shift + dynamics) to apply a velocity sensitive low pass
filter to the sample synth. the filter reacts to how hard the key is being
played and gives the sound a more dampened quality when played
softly and a brighter character when more force is applied to the key

Yes, on NE6 you basically have a predefined and fixed behaviour, but the details are not provided by Nord (could be that velocity determines just a change in Cutoff, on NS4 it is more flexible as Velocity affects the Mod ENV)

Okay, thanks for the info.

Does anyone know how to dial The Filter Frequency on the synth section to a specific number? Even the smallest dial will move it by 15-20Hz. I want the exact frequency on the recording.

And how do we tune our Stage 4 to be in soffagio and be in 432Hz or 5528Hz when we like?

Thank you.
