Many people here know that I’ve been very critical with NS4’s MIDI…
Sorry to say but I cannot help expanding my critic to Grand 2 as well. Especially now when everything has doubled - two pianos, two sample synths - it’s a big shame that you cannot give one more part(s) to external Midi control. This means that you could set a special Midi channel to each part and put one or more of them to local off mode (or ”no keyboard zone”). At least to me this would be a huge difference: I could put for example a small midi keyboard (perhaps with minikeys) on top of Grand and play some stuff with that (strings, pads, synth, accordeon etc.)
Just like it is with NS4, Grand 2 has increased multitimbral power which could be very easily better realized with this rather simple midi implementation. I cannot help thinking that Nord has serious problems with product development in terms of midi. With NS4 it’s even more striking because NS4 is worse than its predecessor (NS3). What comes to Grand 2 midi is similar to original Grand. But IMO at least now they should have rethought it (midi).

Re: Grand 2 and MIDI
It is the same on NP5 of which NG2 is just the version with Kawai keybed and NG chassis, so no surprise imo and I would not expect Nord to change their approach to the Piano/Grand product families. They are conceived as standalone instruments, the second piano section is intended just to allow to layer 2 different pianos (e.g. the classic acoustic + Rhodes or DX or virbraphone... ) and the second synth section allows to have a split with a synth sound (e.g. a bass on lower or lead on upper) but keeping the possibility to layer a pad on pianos.

Re: Grand 2 and MIDI
No surprise and I too don’t expect them to provide this implementation, but still I don’t get this approach. With very simple midi implementation it would be nice addition to many users having midi keyboard on top of NG2. Of course it would be nice to have all NG-keyboard for piano and same time some sample stuff for ext keys. Also sounds like synth, accordeon etc. are much nicer to play with synth action (vs. grand piano action).maxpiano wrote: ↑01 Jun 2024, 16:09 It is the same on NP5 of which NG2 is just the version with Kawai keybed and NG chassis, so no surprise imo and I would not expect Nord to change their approach to the Piano/Grand product families. Re: Grand 2 and MIDI
I am not in disagreement with you Ecaroh, but if Nord has decided to keep the NP and NG "closed" is something we can just observe and acknowledge.Ecaroh wrote: ↑01 Jun 2024, 17:14No surprise and I too don’t expect them to provide this implementation, but still I don’t get this approach.
