Nord stage 4 external midi synth
Hi folks, I connected my Nord rack 3 to the Nord stage 4, and I'd like the expander to play only when a synth extern layer is ON. But the MIDI signal is always sent to the external module, even if all piano, organ and synth sections are OFF. I cannot find any related argument in the manual. How can I turn off globally sending midi to extern interface? So I can activate it from synth section? Thank you

Hi,
Your best option is to set the receive ch. on the rack 3 to (example) channel 11. And then in the MIDI menu of Stage 4 set EXTERN A to 11. Then in Synth layer A you can use the EXTERN mode to play the Rack 3. Each program can transmit a program change to the rack, if you select Send on Load from the EXTERN menu (per program). Hope this helps

Re: Nord stage 4 external midi synth
Thank you for your answer, but my synth layer with extern rack is ok. The problem is that when synth is off, the expander continues to play. How can I avoid to send midi signals when synth is OFF?

Re: Nord stage 4 external midi synth
To explain it the other way round: You should probably not receive the Stage's Global MIDI channel on your Rack 3 - but instead the respective Extern MIDI channel. The Rack 3's Receive channel and the Stage's Extern layer channel need to match, the Stage's Global channel should have another channel number.
Stage-3-C (Rev.B 2.1) - Kawai VPC1 / Viscount Legend 70s / Yamaha CP33 - Hall of Fame & NeoVent2 - Behringer Flow-8 - K&M stands 18820+18811 / 18953+18952 - Samsung Tab S5e, MobileSheetsPro & AirTurn Duo200 - QSC K8.2s / Fischer InEars

Thank you very much! I turned OFF the global channel and set the extern channel. Thank you!

Re: Nord stage 4 external midi synth
You are right, I want the global midi completely off, so the rack can play only if a extern synth layer is active.
Turning off global and setting a channel for extern was the way
Thank you all!
