I'm brand new to NORD, with a Nord Piano 4. When I layer the piano and strings, the strings volume swells too loud. Is there a way to adjust this? Seems to do it no matter which string sample I use. If i turn the strings down to an acceptable level at their loudest, the attack is so soft you can't hear them.

Have a look at the manual, page 16.
You can tweak the attack, decay and release of the samples.
