New Nord Stage member here!

Good morning,
Hi to all members, I'm going to be a new nord stage 4 owner within days so that being said I decided
to join this community to learn more about the nord stage piano and to get some advice on accessories.
I’m a church band director musician at the moment and been exposed on my 29 years as a musician to Roland, Korg and Yamaha so this is going to be my first nord instrument. I’ve been astonished of the amazing piano sounds this machine can produce. Definitely raise the bar for the other competitors.
With this being said, I will be going with a 73 key due to portability although I’m struggling to accept the fact that 88 key(which I prefer as a pianist)is a overkill for my back considering I have to carry it back and forth. Have any of you missed the less octave on the 73 key?
Also I’m planning on getting a pair of Yamaha HS7 or 8 speakers which were recommended to me by 2 sound engineers. Any speakers that you guys might had any experience with the nord?
Also I’m going to but myself some Audiotechnica ATH-M50X headphones to use at night not to bother with noise. Have any of you had any experience with these or any other brand/model?
Thanks in advance for sharing any idea or experience.
Regards to all and blessings

Hi and welcome to the Nord User Forum!
You will have fun with your new instruments and you will get lots of information and help in this wonderful forum here.

I am using the ATH-M50X for many years as my standard headphones for listening to anything that's happening on my computer (YT, tutorials) and of course my keyboards. They are closed, so more silent for you and also the other people in the room, and they sound great (not analytical, but rather musical and "good"). A good alternative and recommendation in the same price range are the Beyerdynamic DT-770.

Choosing the "right" speakers is even more a very subjective matter and also depends strongly on the room situation. I had the HS7 in the past and wasn't super happy with them, but many other users are quite satisfied.

Welcome to the forum!. My home setup: pretty old Samson Resolv 65A powered monitors, Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 80ohm (open headphones) and Ultrasone HFI 650 (closed headphones).

Welcome! I've played pianos my whole life, and had similar concerns about "missing keys". I ended up adapting very quickly.

I advise people to start with a decent (not expensive!) pair of headphones to establish a "reference standard" in your head before you start evaluating monitors and similar. Everything will be a compromise in comparison, but at least you'll know how much you're compromising. Monitor positioning is essential to getting a great sound -- you basically want them pointing at your face.

For small spaces, I read that iLouds are popular among others. If budget isn't an issue, the Nord monitors are super nice. If you're in a larger space, 8" self-powered PA units (same as you'd perform with) are popular.

Thanks! for the input. I’m now undecided between a50x vs. dt770 32 ohms. vs. dt990.
Which will sound the best. As for speakers i was able to find a local store to listen to the hs7 and hs8 model

Born with, on or in a piano :D

Jokes aside, agree with what cphollis is saying about the 73 keys versus 88 keys, I’m a pianist as well but use the Stage 3 Compact on stage and not missing the additional keys at all.

As for the headphones the ATH-M50X are great, so are the Beyerdynamics - try them out if you can or otherwise buy just one of them, you can’t go wrong

If it was for just listening myself to what I play, I'd tend towards a pair of 5'' studio monitors (which are near field speakers - nothing you could use for an audience, though) . If you want to fill a living room, you might need more or swap to a pair of 8'' PA monitors (which need some space to develop their tone). I'm not that experienced as cphollis, but that's what I learned already.

So if ever you test those HS7 or 8, have a look at their size - if you really need that big of a pair of speakers. The Clavia Nord monitors are 4.5'' plus 3/4'' tweeters.

\Thank you! what happens is that clavia speakers run for $800.00 while yamaha hs series go for 349.99-399.99.
