Took my Stage to a rehearsal yesterday. It was dingy, lots going on whilst setting up. Set up my Stage 4, could not get my pedals working. I took along an EV7 instead of my customary FC7, for weight reasons. I kept getting "incompatible swell pedal" warnings. Was not a lot of time until the band kicked off. Played the whole night with no pedals.
Obvious mistake, easy to make. What happened was that in the dark rehearsal room, I was standing in front of the keyboard. So, I used the white lettering to identify the correct plug and felt alongtb from right to left counting the jack inputs. On the white lettering, coming from the RHS, the Swell pedal is indicated as gteh third along. so, I felt 3 plugs along and plugged it in. MISTAKE. What I did not realise at the time was the "triple pedal" was not a jack plug. This is obvious with hind sight, but at the time my mondvwas not on triple pedsl and I just looked for the third lot of white lettering, not reading the others. For this reason the sustain pedal ened up in the Swell Pedal Socket and this caused the above error message.
I will know better next time.

Taking along another pedal instead of the standard one may always be a risk. For you, ZeroZero, it probably was the reason to assume a problem which wasn't the real issue.
But there seem to be potential for real problems with different pedals. On my Nord, I get hanging sustain from a Viscount Legend '70s (as ExtKB) with a triple pedal which isn't an issue at all with a single pedal.
Beware from combinations you haven't tested before! Should be another newbie warning.
