Done & Done -- Sample Heaven (Almost)

Post by ESFlash »

Recent Nordified user ... Stage 4 HA 73

I missed having a few sounds from my ancient, and always able to take a beating, and keep on gigging, PX 330. So today I tried out the Nord Sample Editor 4.32 in order to get some of those sounds into the S4.

My signal chain, & interface into the SmplEdtr was a Zoom H6, set to audio interface that went into a small Dell Lattitude with the PX plugged into channel 1 of the H6; I opted to grab samples in mono as I don't play out in stereo anyway.

I sampled four different PX keyboard instruments (AP, Clav, & EPs), about 15 to 18 samples for each instrument, and miracles of miracles, it all worked and transferred into the S4 flawlessly.

It turns out that the Sample Editor puts each sound in the Synth Samples section.

This meant I could have a Nord Program with an assortment of 5 assorted AP's & Ep's. 2 in the regular piano section and 3 in the Synth/User-Sample section. Not bad -- & not to forget the Organ side, for a total of 7 keyboards in one program. And then add in the ability to cross fade, say btwn an AP and Wurly using the wheel, and wow

The above is prbly all old info for a lot of you out there; however crazy good, new stuff, for me.

If there was a SmpleEdtr wish list, it would be a heavier duty, more complex Nord Sample Editor that enabled me to take 3 or four samples at various dynamic levels for each note chosen. As well as being able to put AP & EP samples into the Piano Section as well as the Synth Section

However, for the price and ease of use; the SmplEdtr that Nord bundles, rocks.

There is a hack to generate samples at a velocity range, but this is only for the nsmp3 format. There is a thread here.
Strange they didn't keep it for the stage 4 with the possibility to use 3 velocity layers (per synth), whereas the Stage 3 only has 2.
