Orchestra library?

Post by Haki »

Hello everybody!
This is my first post here on this forum, the reason I signed up is that I am a proud owner of a Nord Stage Ex 88. Are there any suggestions on how I can get an epic Symphonic Orchestra library on my keyboard?

Haki

hi Haki and welcome to this forum.
hope you gonna enjoy it!

you can use the synth engine to produce some strings and brass for sure. due to the ability to setup two PANELS within one PROGRAM you can layer a stringsound and a brass sound. but you shouldn't expect the NS to be an symphonic orchestra playback machine. then you'll be disappointed...

the NS can't load any samples, but the ones from the "Nord Piano Library". so the NS is not compatible with the "Nord Sample Library".

good luck with your new playmate!

Thanks!, I have heard somewhere that it is possible to get a orchestra library by connecting some external device

what kind of "external device" is that?
you aren't talking about other synthesizers (hardware or software), are you?

The Stage is very good at integrating any external sound module you may like, and treating it almost as a natural extension of the Stage itself. So sure, you can add orchestral sounds to a Stage by adding something like a Yamaha Motif Rack, or a Roland SonicCell (maybe with their orchestral expansion card), etc.

Thank you guys for the great answers! when I read about the rack, it all came to me because I have been told about it earlier, but just couldn't remember.

as Anotherscott said, the Nord Stage is the keyboard in the Nord family that's best suited as a master keyboard.
i am using a rack synthesizer myself and i am very pleased with the ability to control it from the NS front panel.

the limitation is that you can only control one (1) variable midi control change message per PROGRAM. (except for control change 11, "expression", which is always sent from the control pedal jack)

good luck with your playing
