My experience with the Motion Sound SRV212

Post by Alpaugh »

On a whim I decided to try out the SRV212. This is the unpowered rotary cab that MS makes. I think it is overlooked by a lot of people simply for the fact that you need separate head with it - and of course the fact that it is the "guitar" version.

It tried a few amp pairings with it before I got what I needed. Both an Orange guitar head and Ashdown 15w bass amp didn't provide the low end I was really hoping for. These amps would be absolutely fine if you play out with a bass player, but I play LH bass so I needed something with some real presence. I was able to get some "acceptable" bass by EQing both the amp and the C2D, but it still lacked something.

The magical pairing seemed to be with an old Bogen Challenger 50w PA head. It's dirty, spitty, and just stupidly loud - and I got the bass I needed.

I really suggest anyone who is taking a serious look at any of the MS products to check this one out. It's only $539, and you get the foot switch and built in internal mics.

Let me know if you guys want to hear any demos or see any videos.

Add a pro3 x and you should have a nice sound. Turn down the sim effects to 0 and send it to the pa amp. Now the svr handles wverything below 800 hz.

What a blast from the past! My first band had one of those Bogen PA heads! Haven't seen one in years.

Is this a newer model?

The person I bought it from believes it is a 1950's model. I think it's probably younger than that.
