swell pedal minimum volume

Post by alexx »

Hi!

Anyone knows the way to set the minimum value of swell pedal in C1 and C2D? (I think it is impossible....)
The showed value is 0 but, obviously, as a real B3 is not 0; unfortunately NORD has an amount of min volume too loud and a range of expression too much limited, poor dynamics....."the real thing" is not the same; for example if you play a ballad it's a problem.
Thank you

Alex

There is no such a setting, but the feeling may also depend on which expression pedal you are using (brand/model) and the Pedal Type setting on the organ. What are yours?

Unfortunately this condition is the same with Yamaha FC7 (50 KOhm linear pot) or swell pedal of PK 27 (Fatar, 10 KOhm linear pot) or Boss FV 50 (10 KOhm linear pot)
The only way is via soft (if possible); i will write to NORD to ask for some solutions.
At minimum volume the display shows the correct value=0.

You can try... anyway which settings did you use with those pedals? Sometimes a setting different from nominal one works better (e.g using an EV-5 over a EV-7 setting)

Thanks maxpiano for mentioning this... I have been wondering for some time why the EV-5 seemed to work better with the EV-7 setting in the the NS2!

I use a Boss EV30. It is a dual expression pedal and each channel allows you to set a minimum volume. I connect one channel into my swell input and set the minimum volume on the pedal.

You seem to be fine with your solution. But it wouldn't help alexx who's pedal went down to 0 and had a too high basic swell volume anyway.

You may be able to increase the minimum organ volume by setting a minimum on your expression pedal. But I'd wonder if you were able to get below that by setting the pedal minimum.

You don't set a minimum "volume" actually but the minimum "value" of the resistance that the pedal will provide, then if/how this is translated to volume (or any other control) depends on the connected keyboard.

In any case the Hammond swell characteristic is that it will never be 0, even if your Exp pedal position is at 0 (i.e. pedal fully up and no minimum resistance set) so it won't solve the OP question.
