You should stick with the SM58 it's a classic and the price market as an used item is very low because it doesn't have hype of an SM7…but it's also bullet prove!!

probably true that you won't seen much cash for a used SM58, might as well keep it in the bag
they are nice, but I gotta say last time around when I needed to shop for a mic trusted GC salesperson steered me into a Sennheiser
that was probably eight years ago and both sound-wise and reliability-wise it has been stellar in every aspect
not sure what model, but it was the same approx price (~$100 i think)

What is everyone's general reaction for EQ on the Silver Grand? I'm enjoying the clarity of the bright hammers on the top end, but I feel like cutting some middle frequencies might clean up the sample even more. Any thoughts?

Funny, I thought it died a bit at the higher registers and sounded great for mid-low.

I played a wedding with it last night. Used it for the first dance (piano ballad) and it was lovely. I tried it out for different rock songs, and for some songs it cut through great - other songs I found myself reverting back to the Bright Grand. I plan on keeping it, but I've had to remove it for an Upright sample I had to install for someone who's coming to record on my keyboard today. I'll probably add it back in, but I'm not so sure. I need to rejig how I use my piano samples soon, I'm running out of space!

I find the Bosendorfer and the Steinway, while absolutley lovely to play on my own, are a bit murky when playing in a louder band situation.

I find that with pretty much all the Nord piano samples. Although I do solo piano gigs, most work at the moment is function gigs, pop, rock etc...
I have loaded a Roland XP80 piano sample into the Stage 2 sample section so I can be heard in a band setting.
Not ideal but at least it's a nice clear, even piano sound with punch and no odd harmonics.

I'm curious about the new Kawai sample. I'll try it but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I did notice when migrating from a Yamaha CP200 to the NP2 that I have to pay more attention to dynamics, but I attribute that to years of sloppy playing.

Maybe its just me, but....

I find lots of choices within the Nord Piano Library when playing in stereo, either when recording or when playing live with 2 speakers. On my louder gigs, I tend to set up in mono. I find that the Bright Grand has the best balance of "cut" and mono compatibility (the 2 seems to be related). Some of the samples, when played in mono, lose their "cut". They become hollow and thin in mono. Bright Grand seems to suffer less from this (IMHO).

Would love to have one really good mono-sampled piano.

Just wondering, are you mono'ing the outputs, or are you using the Mono Output switch?

RedLeo - i'm using the mono output switch. I'm not convinced that there is any magic to the "mono" button; my guess is that it just sums the L&R channels. I don't recall seeing anything in the manual to the contrary. But, I could be wrong.

Nonetheless - when running in mono, i use just one cable from the keyboard to the mixer and activate the "mono" mode.
