The letter E is going to make me crazy
Re: The letter E is going to make me crazy
I got videos of this issue, just in case anyone else experiences it. I'll add one here.
In both cases, both of my hands were only on keys, and no other controller sources were touched. In both cases, these are patches I created with no fanciness happening on aftertouch or morph. This incident is purely random, happening rarely and not reproducible under the same conditions (time, heat, patch, etc).
In both cases, it's as if a controller knob has been moved, though it has not. What is interesting about this is that it is literally registering a move -- which is to say the value that the phantom controller is registering *is* the value of where the physical knob is at the time. But the effect depends on the patch involved. So in one case the sound was not affected, but in the other case it was.
Adding the shortest of the two videos (20sec).

Re: The letter E is going to make me crazy
Do both videos show the edit as changing the Delay Feedback setting to 1.7? I've had that happen on my NS3 with a dead bug inside the unit that affected the Mod Env knob and made the setting jump to 10.0. It happened on every program, but of course, only affected the programs that used that parameter. I opened up the NS3, sprayed compressed air, and vacuumed the inside and all was well after that.ddurst wrote: ↑31 Aug 2024, 14:48 In both cases, it's as if a controller knob has been moved, though it has not. Re: The letter E is going to make me crazy
I have experienced the same (very rare) problem of phantom changes appearing in the display. It is always the delay as far as I can tell. I've ignored it to be honest, as it has never happened during a gig or rehearsal (famous last words).ddurst wrote: ↑31 Aug 2024, 14:48 I

Re: The letter E is going to make me crazy
The first video was the delay depth, the second one (not posted) was the mod 2 knob. So the first one had no effect because the patch wasn’t using delay, but the second one did.

Update:
I took the unit to get repaired. Unsurprisingly, it did not exhibit the problem. All of the hardware diagnostics checked out. The tech suggested exercising the knobs on a regular basis. I have yet to try the unit out since getting it home.
It will be a year since purchase in three weeks.

Hooking up MIDI Monitor shows me that this unit is sending controller messages every now and then. Even when I am not playing it. So we’ll see what happens next.
Re: The letter E is going to make me crazy
MIDI spying for the win. This unit has now been replaced with a new one. Fingers crossed.

Please tell me how you solved your problem. I also had the letter E appear. At first it appeared, but the change was not noticeable. Then it became very noticeable. Suddenly the reverberation could become very large, or I would get a huge delay during the concert and rehearsals. At first I didn't pay attention to the letter E, but when it started happening in concerts, it became a very big problem. Did you replace some part eventually, no more errors?

Re: The letter E is going to make me crazy
He said the whole unit was replaced, the trick is to use a MIDI Monitor and enable MIDI CC Send on the NS (to see if any CC being sent without touching the related knob/control); in your case it could be a defect on the knob of Reverb amount, try to rotate it fast a few times to clean it and see if anything changes (or leave it at 0 then try to change Programs and see if it stays stable at the programmed value)Alexandr74 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2025, 16:19Please tell me how you solved your problem. Re: The letter E is going to make me crazy
No, Nord opted to replace the entire unit.
In reality it's probably a single part, but the best way to confirm this is to spy on the MIDI, since the unit will fire those with controller changes. I used https://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/ and it didn't take very long for me to capture the error occurring.
If you're within warranty, I'd contact the seller. If you're not, I'd contact Nord support. They might send you to an authorized repair shop, and if they can see what you experience, they can probably repair it. My repair shop could not, but only because they couldn't reproduce it, and that was before we thought of the MIDI spying approach.
Good luck!
