Electro Stand

Hello everyone,

I would like to replace the x-stand I am using with my Electro 6D 73 SW in order to free up space for my legs and pedals. I have tried a couple of platform and Z-stands that wobbled a bit. I use a Nord Music Stand V2, so appreciable shaking--even the kind that wouldn't bother me in terms of playing--affects the stand and makes my books and sheet music shake, which is sort of irritating. Though this will live primarily at home, I would like something that can be folded up relatively easily and moved around when necessary.

I'm currently considering the following:

K&M 18950
18953
18810
On-Stage KS7150

I would order the K&M from Thomann, so the prices are all close enough not to be the deciding factor. Which would you recommend in terms of stability, fit, and appropriateness for the 73-key Electro?

I don't see why you should use the K&M 18950 - it's 10 cm deeper than the instrument. I always see that crazy combination in our church but don't like it at all: You don't know where exactly to place the instrument to have it relatively fixed. The 18953 fits much better in size.

I use that one in combination with my NS3C (73) and a second tier - like it a lot. There's a lot of space below for pedals: I usually have 5 between the legs and a 6th (BT pedal for page turning) outside. The Omega (18810) is very good, too. Have it at home - looks nicer than the 18953. But the Omega Pro (18820) is the one you can ply for gigging (probably way heavier than the 18953). And you should use it with the slimmer stage piano support 18827!

Do you find any difference in stability between the 18953, the 18810, and the 18820? I will only be using a single tier for the Electro. And would the 18827 supports be necessary for both the 18810 and the 18820?

I will look at the specs to get a better sense of the overall size of the 18953 vs the 18810 and 18820; my space is rather small, and distance from the wall makes a difference.

There is no wobbling on both types. Even the 18820 (I was too penny-pinching to get that one - it would have probably suited me best) shouldn't show any instability. I wouldn't mind to even get a third tier for both (just don't need it).

Yes, I highly recommend the 18827 for both 18810 and 18820 for any type of (slim) stage piano - or you use a hack saw to shorten the supports provided (it's just a bit fiddly to get the rubber ends off and back on - that's why I went with the supplementary supports).

Oh, I see--the 18820 has folding legs and the 18810 does not. Yes, since I will occasionally have to move the stand around in a tight space or set it aside for temporary storage, that could be useful even in the absence of gigs.

As someone who is familiar with both, what do you consider to be the pros and cons of the platform (18953) vs t-style (18820) designs?

The 18820 with its 2 legs looks definitely tidier than the 18953 with the 4 legs - advantage for living room use. Whereas the 18953 has the advantage of all 4 legs being micro-adjustable in height, so you can easily compensate uneven soils or setup a small inclination to the front or rear.

The supporting points of the table type are at the edges, so fixed; whereas the supporting points of the Omega stands can be adjusted in width - which has no effect in my case but potentially could.

18953: ~8.5 kg. "Height can be adjusted between 600 and 1000 mm without the use of tools. Individual height-adjustment for each leg; additional levelling screws for uneven surfaces." - I do need screw driver and wrench for mine, but they seem to have butterfly nuts now. 2 colours available (black/white).
18820: ~10.5 kg. Height adjustable between 600 and 1020 mm. "Spring-loaded clamping knob." 3 colours available (black/white/red).
Both height adjustments are in steps of around 1.5 cm. EDIT: While the 18820 has a hight adjustment in steps of ~1.5 cm, the steps for the 18953 are wider: ~ 5 cm, but you have the additional fine adjustment of around 1.5~2 cm to get to the height you intend (or you drill additional holes into the feet).

Actually, I chose the 18950 over the 18953 exactly because the instrument can be fixed much better: the width is adjustable and there are several holes where you can put the feet of the keyboard, so it will stay absolutely locked there. Conversely, the 18953 only has a fixed width and a flat solid surface with no hole or fittings of any kind.

Apart from that, they're essentially the same stand: rock solid, will hold keyboards of any weight and not wobble a mm.
I also have the 18810 and it is also totally solid, but much less practical to move around: I will never gig with it, it stays fixed in my studio.

There are rubber knobs packed with the 18953 that you can stick onto the table to fix the instrument - it never moved when I was playing. And the picture is a bit weired with the perspective as you can't see that the feet are clearly bent to to outside (in width and depth) to have a more solid base.

What are you doing with the overhanging depth? Is it just on the back of the instrument? Or is the Stage 2ex so much deeper than my stage piano which is on the first tier?

same experience here. The 18950 is rock solid and very versatile in case of width and good keyboard positioning. I even drilled two additional holes into the top side bars to get my nord most forward.

Highly recommend the KM Omega stand. I've got 4 of them and I think they are fantastic. Hardly use anything else these days. Got 1 of the original Omega in my home studio, and 3 of thew newer foldable Omega Pro for gigs. Best stands I've ever had.
